Wine Advocate: "A barrel sample to be bottled around July 2018, the 2015 Chardonnay The Judge offers up very pretty orange blossom and jasmine notes with a core of lemon curd, pink grapefruit and guava plus buttered toast and praline. Full-bodied, wonderfully creamy, spicy and gregarious, it has so much verve and expression, finishing very long, layered and minerally. (LPB)" (10/2017)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2018 Cornell "Commitment" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon - (98JS) This is a new special bottling of pure cabernet sauvignon from this pristine mountain vineyard on the west side of Spring Mountain. Elegance with structure, it shows plenty of subtle aromas and flavors of lead pencil and graphite with blackcurrant and black berry undertones. Some pine needles, too. It’s medium- to full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Impressive length. Better in three to four years but already very beautiful. Tiny production.

Of the 2016 Avennia "Gravura" Columbia Valley Bordeaux Blend, Jeb Dunnuck writes: "... It's another rock star of a wine from Chris that sports a saturated purple color, complex notes of blackberries, black cherries, damp earth, and spring flowers, hints of subtle oak, medium body, and perfect balance. Drink this seamless blend over the coming 10-15 years.Winemaker Chris Peterson continues to fashion some of the most impressive wines in the State. These are always more classical in style and show plenty of acidity and structure in their youth, yet they blossom with just short term cellaring and are brilliant wines." (04/2019)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Claret (96RP, 93ST, 93WS, 92JG). Wine Advocate: "The micro-cuvee (about 200 cases) of 1999 Reserve Claret (two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon) is awesome! This candidate for "wine of the vintage" spent 24 months in both old and new French oak. It boasts an opaque purple color in addition to a sumptuous, sweet bouquet of espresso, blackberries, cassis, maple syrup, and vanilla. It is long, layered, multidimensional, sweet, and thick on the palate, possessing an unctuosity and concentration that must be tasted to be believed. Nevertheless, it is well-balanced and incredibly pure as well as long. (RP)" (08/2002)

Of the 2016 Law "Prima" Paso Robles Mourvèdre, Jeb Dunnuck writes: "The 2016 Prima is all Mourvèdre and, like everything here, spent 22 months in barrel. It sports a seriously inky color as well as incredible notes of blackberries, blueberries, ground herbs, pepper, earth, and crushed rock. These carry over to the palate, where the wine is massively concentrated, with building, polished tannins and a big finish. It has some approachable charm today due to its wealth of fruit, but it’s in desperate need of 2-3 years of bottle age. 95+" (10/2019)

Bid on this 4-bottle tasting lot; including 4-bottles of 2013 Elio Grasso "Ginestra Casa Maté" Barolo (96RP, 95VN, 94JS, 94WS) Of the 2013 Elio Grasso "Ginestra Casa Maté" Barolo, Wine Advocate writes: "The 2013 Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté does a great job of portraying its vineyard characteristics. This single vineyard is located at higher altitudes with thicker clay soils. This combination helps to build the wine's intensity, structure and muscle. It undergoes 45 days of submerged cap fermentation. Dark cherry and blackberry open the bouquet. These aromas are followed by spice, smoke, iron and crushed mineral. The robust nature of those aromas makes for a beautiful contrast to the fine, silky and more delicate (relatively speaking) nature of the mouthfeel. Wine Advocate: "More tightly wound and incisive than Vaillons, Raveneau’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains is another success. Sourced from a 0.3-hectare site—a windy place with thin, sticky topsoil—it unfurls from the glass with a bouquet of green apple, oyster shell, wheat toast and white flowers. Medium-bodied, with chalky grip and bright acidity, it concludes with a vibrant, mineral finish... It deserves special attention and will delight purists... In the era of premature oxidation, Raveneau’s wines have also emerged as some of the most dependable prospects for extended cellaring...(KK)" (03/2025)

Of the 2015 Robert Biale "Royal Punishers" Napa Valley Petite Sirah, Wine Advocate writes: "The 2015 Petite Sirah Royal Punishers is inky purple-black in color with a warm plums, blueberries and cherries-scented nose with touches of spice box, dried herbs and earth. The palate is full-bodied, taut and packed with youthful black fruits, with firm tannins and a spicy finish. (LPB)" (01/2018)

Of the 2005 Canon, St-Émilion, Jeb Dunnuck writes: "Just now starting to come out of its shell, the 2005 Château Canon is a blockbuster of a Canon that has so much to love. Ripe blackcurrants, darker cherries, graphite, and scorched earth notes all define the aromatics (it needs air to show at its best), and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness backed by a stacked mid-palate, building, ripe, polished tannins, and incredible length on the finish. It’s clearly in the early stages of its prime drinking window yet is going to evolve gracefully over the coming two decades in cold cellars. It doesn’t have the sheer precision of modern-day Canon releases, but it brings more opulence and oomph. It's a brilliant bottle of wine." (04/2024)

Of the 2018 Turley "Salvador" Contra Costa County Zinfandel, Vinous writes: "The 2018 Zinfandel Salvador Vineyard is dark, pliant and super-expressive. Rose petal, lavender, mint and succulent dark red and purplish berry fruit all run through this racy, sumptuous Zinfandel. Plush and generous, with striking fruit and no hard edges, the 2018 is a winner. (AG)" (09/2019)

Of the 2015 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva, Vinous writes: "If Tuscany had a formal vineyard classification Rancia would be a Grand Cru. And that is exactly what comes through in the 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia. Silky, sensual and finessed to the core, the 2015 is absolutely stellar. The ripeness of the tannins allows the natural radiance of the year to come through loud and clear. The 2015 is a special. Rancia is quite simply one of the world's greatest and most iconic wines. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2021 Sine Qua Non "Distenta III" California Syrah ((98-100RP), 100TWI, 98VN, 97JD). Wine Advocate: "I tasted the 2021 Syrah Distenta III as a precise blend from barrel on July 6—it's due to be bottled in August. It comes from three estate vineyards: The Third Twin (51%), Cumulus (26%) and 23% Eleven Confessions (23%)... It matured around 23 months in 53% new French oak, 43% one- to three-year-old barrels and 4% concrete. Opaque ruby-purple in the glass, the Distenta III's aromatic complexity requires plenty of patience, as a singular truffle, earth and coffee bean character gives way to electric streaks of crème de violette, blueberry liqueur and peppermint patty. The palate is medium to full-bodied and exceptionally light on its feet. It glides silkily through the mouth with fireworks of freshness, and its floral fruit is tempered by graphite tones.

Bid on this bottle of 2020 Domaine J-F Mugnier Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Clos de la Marechale" (93BH, 92JG, 92RP, 91VN, 90JM). Burghound: "An exceptionally pretty, indeed even perfumed, nose reflects aromas of dark currant, poached plum, newly turned earth and subtle anise hints. The refined and intense flavors possess good if not special density along with a beguiling sense of underlying tension that carries over to the dusty, youthfully austere, compact and lingering finish. This is unusually powerful, if a bit less refined, compared to its usual understated character and overall, it is really quite impressive. *Outstanding*" (01/2023)

Jasper Morris: "An intense mid purple, the bouquet just made me burst into smiles at first sniff. This wine is always too multi-faceted to admit of simple fruit descriptors. There are quite a few berries in the bowl. Some fresh red fruit then much darer notes, I turn lightened up by the peppery notes to finish. This really kicks on magically behind! 75-80 whole bunch vinification. Drink from 2035-2045+. " (01/2024)

Bid on this bottle of 2013 Hundred Acre "Kayli Morgan" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP). Wine Advocate: "Like all of the Jayson Woodbridge wines, it can be noted for its inky/bluish purple color, extraordinary fragrance of white flowers, crème de cassis, blackberry and graphite. Totally opulent, I always thought the wine tasted more like the great Pomerols, which are made mostly from Merlot, versus Woodbridge’s 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. But this vineyard has a lot of clay in it that seems to provide a silkiness to the tannins. This is a beautifully balanced, full-throttle and highly extracted wine with no hard edges and a finish of a good 45-50 seconds. The fruit character is still vibrant and intense, despite the 32 months of oak age. (RP)" (10/2016)

Full-bodied, the palate is impactful yet maintains compelling restraint, featuring layers of crunchy black fruits, exotic spices and floral hints, framed by firm, exquisitely ripe tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length and depth. It has such purity and power yet it's reserved and beautiful. It's one of the best Calons ever. I drank a bottle with some friends in Manhattan last week and it was the wine of the evening. It was full-bodied with silky tannins and a focused and intense finish. Lots of currant and berry character and hints of dried spices. It's finally opening up and giving real pleasure now like so many 1995 Bordeaux at the moment." (06/2016)

Of the 2018 Château Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, Jeb Dunnuck writes: "The 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc takes it up a notch, offering rocking notes of white peach, quince, crushed rocks, and honeysuckle. It’s medium to full-bodied, with a beautiful core of sweet fruit, a layered texture, and a great finish. Wine Advocate: "The 100% Merlot cuvée, the 2012 Roberta’s Reserve State Lane Vineyard is, once again, flirting with perfection. A stunning nose of chocolate fudge intermixed with coffee bean, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit is intense, and followed by a full-bodied, gorgeously textured, opulent style of wine with stunning richness and purity. Bid on this bottle of 1978 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Riserva (90JG). John Gilman: "The 1978 Barolo Riserva from the Abbona family is another very good, sturdy example of Barolo that is drinking well today, but is just starting to witness its fruit component begin to dry out. The nose is complex and tertiary, wafting from the glass in a mix of desiccated black cherries, woodsmoke, chicory, beef bouillon and roasted venison. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and still shows a bit of tannin, with a good core and fine length and grip on the wide open, autumnal and chewy finish. This is a tad on the rustic side, but it is a pretty good drink for the moment, but I would suspect the fruit to fade over the next decade. " (08/2014)

Of the 1992 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien, Wine Advocate writes: "An excellent 1992 that reveals impressive concentration, this vintage of Ducru boasts fine structure, as well as an attractive berry-scented, floral nose. Rich and authoritative, with firm tannin, medium body, and a spicy, long finish, this impressive wine begs for 2-3 years of cellaring. It is a candidate for 10-15 years of positive evolution. It is just pure, classic Cabernet Sauvignon all the way, giving up a dense purple color, full-bodied aromas and flavors of cassis, tobacco, violets, chocolate, and lead pencil, flawless balance, building tannins, and a sensational finish. Bid on this bottle of 2015 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Masseto" Toscana (100RP, 99JS, 99VN, 98WS). Wine Advocate: "... The stunning 2015 Masseto is hitting the market just as the final touches are being made to the new Masseto winery. I'm told that Masseto might one day see other wines made under that same roof, so we can't exclude a future enlargement of the Masseto portfolio. The Masseto vineyard now covers seven hectares (divided into three plots), and the vines range from 30 to 40 years old. The wine is absolutely teeming with sensorial spirit that is transmitted through the bounty of the bouquet and the solid tannins of the mouthfeel... The 2015 vintage is characterized by a level of sheer exuberance that also defined the 2004 and 2007 vintages. Yet, it also reveals similar power, directness and linearity that we saw in the 2010 vintage. The 2015 Masseto takes the best of all those past vintages and confines those qualities to this single, spectacular bottle. (ML)" (09/2018)

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1 2018 Paul Lato "Atticus - John Sebastiano Vineyard" Sta.Rita Hills Pinot Noir (97JD, 95RP) and 1 2018 Paul Lato "C'est la Vie - Drum Canyon Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (93VN). Of the 2018 Paul Lato "Atticus - John Sebastiano Vineyard" Sta.Rita Hills Pinot Noir, Jeb Dunnuck writes: "Brought up in 65% new barrels (for 15 months), the 2018 Pinot Noir Atticus John Sebastiano Vineyard is a slightly deeper hued release and gives up lots of black raspberry and spiced strawberry fruit as well as subtle background oak, plenty of spice, orange, and incense notes, medium to full body, and bright yet integrated acidity... These aren’t lightweight wines, yet they never lose their sense of balance and elegance. I always describe the wines as having a slightly Old World style, but with one foot planted firmly in California. As I hope the reviews show, his 2018s are incredible wines across the board."
