Rose petal, mint, lavender and raspberry jam are some of the many notes that build as this racy, voluptuous Pinot shows off its personality. Bid on this bottle of 2014 Scarecrow "M. Étain" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP, 93VN, 93WS). Wine Advocate: "Celia Welch has hit a home run again with the legendary J.J. Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford, a site that includes a block of old vines planted in 1945, which certainly must make them some of the oldest Cabernet vines in all of Napa Valley. There are 2, 000 cases of the 2014 Monsieur Etain, which is a great enough Cabernet by itself. Wonderfully pure crème de cassis notes with some white flowers, lead pencil shavings and incense are followed by a deep, full-bodied wine with silky tannins, a layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel and a beautiful finish of 40+ seconds. This is an exquisite, dense, rich but sexy Cabernet Sauvignon. And now for the good news -- there are 2, 000 cases of it. Drink it over the next 20 or more years. (RP)" (12/2016)

Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Fôrets has a very attractive, pine needle-tinged bouquet with a subtle mineral element (wet limestone) in the background. The palate is fresh on the entry with crisp acidity, clearly a level up from the village cru, with hints of shaved ginger flourishing toward the finish. This is showing nicely. Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Heart Stone Vineyard is big and flavorful but tremendously elegant this vintage. A blend of 59% Syrah, 14% Grenache, 14% Touriga Nacional and 13% Graciano, it has a deep, alluring perfume, loaded with purple flowers, licorice, earth, charcuterie and blackberry pie scents. The palate is full-bodied and structured by wonderfully ripe tannins, exploding with spiced dark fruits that expand effortlessly into a very long, lifted finish. James Suckling: "One of the great Mosel Auslese masterpieces of modern times, this has all the floral splendor of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard site on the medium-bodied palate, through which an extremely delicate thread of floral honey flows. Then the exotic fruit aromas cascade over you at the extremely long and precise finish. Perfect balance makes this seem much less sweet than it really is. Limited production. Drink or hold." Wine Advocate: "Potentially the 'Cabernet Sauvignon of the vintage, ' Foley's 2000 Claret (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) is an amazing effort for this irregular vintage. It possesses a saturated black/purple color, great elegance and richness as well as amazing precision and extraordinary purity. Aromas of smoke, licorice, incense, black currant liqueur, and spice box are followed by a full-bodied, satiny smooth wine with a 45+ second finish. Of the 1997 Ravenswood "Cooke" Sonoma Zinfandel, 89 points Robert Parker writes: "The opaque purple-colored 1997 Zinfandel Cooke Vineyard (14.9% alcohol) displays tangy acidity, but the extra layers of concentrated fruit neutralize the acid. There is a gorgeous nose of roasted meats, new saddle leather, dried herbs, and black fruits. Ripe, deep, medium to full-bodied, and buttressed by the aforementioned acidity, the finish is slightly compressed, but impressive. It should drink well for 7-8 years." (06/99)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine Drouhin "Louise" Oregon Pinot Noir (93JG). John Gilman: "The 2003 vintage of Cuvée Louise, from a torrid growing season, is far more black fruity in personality than either the 2007 or 1999 versions that were paired up with it at this vertical tasting of the domaine’s wines. The nose is a complex blend of cassis, dark berries, lavender, espresso, dark soil, fresh nutmeg and spicy new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full bodied, ripe and beautifully plush on the attack, with a fine core, ripe tannins and a very long, still quite primary finish. This avoids any signs of sur maturité and will be a very, very tasty bottle when it is ready for primetime drinking, but it is never going to be an archetypical vintage of Cuvée Louise. That said, it is going to be very, very good when it is fully ready to drink! 2022-2050." (07/2017)

John Gilman: "The 1981 vintage of Beaucastel remains one of my absolute favorites, alongside of the 1989, 1970 and 1959, from this iconic Châteauneuf du Pape estate. The wine has been drinking with great distinction since the early 1990s, but continues to cruise along as if time will have no dominion over its destiny... The bouquet is flat out brilliant, soaring from the glass in a pure and vibrant blend of autumn leaves, acorns, sweet dark berries, saddle leather, a touch of licorice, gorgeous soil tones, hung game and a bit of bonfire in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and extremely elegant in profile for Beaucastel, with a lovely core of fruit, beautiful complexity, melting tannins, good acids and magical length and grip on the perfectly balanced and dancing finish..." Jeb Dunnuck: "In the same ballpark, the 2017 Chardonnay Durell comes from a Sonoma Coast site and is a richer, fuller Chardonnay that offers lots of lemon curd, pineapple, and some orchard fruits as well as a kiss of smoky minerality. Medium-bodied, nicely textured, and beautifully balanced, the wine builds with time in the glass, displaying a beautiful mid-palate and a great finish. While it’s one of the richer wines in the lineup, it’s firmly in the new, racy, crisp style of the estate." (06/2019)

Decanter: "Probably the best wine from a good, ripe though rather variable vintage: still deep at the centre with a thin tawny rim; lovely ripe plummy aromas, open but still brooding with more to reveal; ripe and fleshy on the palate with glorious plum and cherry fruit backed by firm ripe tannins leading to a powerful finish. Vinous: "The 1987 Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva displays an expressive, perfumed nose with suggestions of cedar, leather, licorice, cocoa and minerals along with ethereal layers of sweet fruit that open in the glass. Although it offers excellent length and prominent acidity which will allow the wine to drink well for at least another decade its overall balance is not quite as outstanding as that of the best Gran Reservas in this tasting. Decanter: "The dark mulberry and cassis fruit have a slightly rustic edge with lovely notes of cigar leaf, mineral, and earth. The texture is dense and tannic, yet there is an elegance as well brought by the fresh acidity that produces a lively feel on the palate and leads to a lingering finish. The grapes come from the 0.70-hectare domaine-owned parcel and are partially destemmed before gentle fermentation and ageing in cask (20% new). The overall effect is closer to the domaine’s wines in Vosne-Romanée, yet there is a touch of muscular Nuits style. (CC)" (10/2022)

This 1er Cru takes its name from an ancient species of oak that disappeared centuries ago, and shows off the magnificence of Pinot Noir on chalky marl terroir. An elegant and well-structured wine with good depth and ample fine tannins on the medium-bodied palate, the red berry fruit is discrete but joined by savory complexity, closing with good length and some aging potential. Bid on this bottle of 2023 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny. One of Volnay's historic benchmark estates, with roots reaching back to the French Revolution and estate buildings dating to the 16th and 17th centuries, today led by Benoît Landanger following his father Patrick's major investment that elevated the domaine's standing among Burgundy's elite producers. The 17-hectare estate holds vineyards across both the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, including seven grands crus and eleven premiers crus, among them the monopoles Clos de la Bousse d'Or, Clos des 60 Ouvrées and Clos d'Audignac in Volnay. Biodynamically farmed, with fruit handled through a long, gentle vinification and extended lees aging in a gravity-flow cellar that minimizes intervention — a philosophy centered on site expression, patience and meticulous vineyard work.

Bid on this magnum of 2015 Domaine de Gouye St. Joseph Vieilles Vignes (1.5L). From the old hillside vineyards above Mauves and Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, at the heart of the original St. Joseph appellation, this 100% organically farmed old-vine Syrah (average age 50 years) is foot-trodden in open-top fermentors and fermented spontaneously with native yeast, aged in neutral French oak. Dark to very dark ruby, it shows a classic Northern Rhône nose of black and purple plum, blackberry, black raspberry, violet, smoke and dark damp soil. Full-bodied yet light on its feet, with rich, old-school flavors of black plum, blackberry and black raspberry, closing on firm, structured tannins. Traditional winemaking throughout — hand-harvested, foot-treaded, bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Bid on this bottle of 2014 Domaine François Cotat "Les Monts Damnes" Sancerre Chavignol. Located in the western half of the Sancerre appellation, Chavignol's steep, south-facing Monts Damnés vineyard sits on a chalk plateau of Kimmeridgian limestone — the same "terres blanches" found in Chablis — with thin topsoils and vines averaging 30 years old. Hand-harvested and pressed full cluster in an older wooden vertical press, fermented on indigenous yeasts in very old demi-muids and aged in older tonneaux, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Aromas of yellow stone fruits, citrus, light smoke and wildflowers lead into a palate of bitter lemon, apricot and candied quince, with excellent depth and the singular intensity that defines the Cotat style.

Saline and tightly wound on the palate, with vibrant red cherry, cranberry and mineral-infused fruit, it shows impressive delineation and a firm tannic spine, built for cellaring.

The ’63 Quinta do Noval is a stunning bottle of Port that is at its absolute apogee of peak maturity, but still has decades and decades of life ahead of it. The gorgeous nose wafts from the glass in a blend of black cherries, fresh-culled mint, lovely soil tones, a touch of nuttiness and a gentle topnote of meatiness. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and gloriously complex, with a great core of fruit, a very powerful personality for mature Quinta do Noval, moderate tannins and stunning length and grip on the beautifully focused and quite tangy finish. Wine Advocate: "Reticent but promising blackberry and black currant fruit as well as licorice aromas jump from the glass of this inky/purple-colored 2004. Rich and broad with sweeter tannins than one expects in a ten-year-old Dunn Cabernet, it reveals impressive richness, power and purity, but is still an adolescent in terms of its evolution.
