1971 Dr. von Bassermann-Jordan Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling Spätlese
Founded in 1718 and based in Deidesheim, Geheimer Rat Dr. von Bassermann-Jordan is one of the historic great estates of the Pfalz, instrumental in advancing quality-focused German viticulture and a founding member of the organization that became today's VDP, with generations of the Jordan family assembling holdings in many of the Mittelhaardt's most celebrated vineyards. The Forster Jesuitengarten, whose name derives from its former ownership by the Jesuit monastery of Neustadt, is a tiny historic vineyard beside Kirchenstück, Ungeheuer, and Pechstein; Bassermann-Jordan acquired its parcel in 1793, and the site's limestone, clay, sandy loam, and weathered basalt soils give Riesling unusual mineral concentration.
