2014 Domaine Arlaud Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru "Les Millandes"

A distinctly cool and relatively high-toned nose offers up notes of pomegranate, red cherry, earth and a discreet floral hint. There is fine detail and a lovely minerality to the precise medium-bodied flavors that possess an attractive underlying tension, all wrapped in an austere, serious and firmly structured finale.

The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru is a wine that was difficult to read from barrel. Now in bottle it has come good with copious red cherry, kirsch and blood orange scents that are almost more 2015 in style than 2014. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, black pepper and sage. What I really admire here is the fineness of the tannin towards the finish that imbue this Premier Cru with sophistication. This is just lovely. (NM)
