Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 1997 Ravenswood "Cooke" Sonoma Zinfandel and 1-bottle of 1999 Ravenswood "Cooke Vineyard" Sonoma Valley Zinfandel. Of the 1997 Ravenswood "Cooke" Sonoma Zinfandel, 89 points Robert Parker writes: "The opaque purple-colored 1997 Zinfandel Cooke Vineyard (14.9% alcohol) displays tangy acidity, but the extra layers of concentrated fruit neutralize the acid. There is a gorgeous nose of roasted meats, new saddle leather, dried herbs, and black fruits. Ripe, deep, medium to full-bodied, and buttressed by the aforementioned acidity, the finish is slightly compressed, but impressive. It should drink well for 7-8 years." (06/99)

1999 Ravenswood "Cooke Vineyard" Sonoma Valley Zinfandel
In 1976, Joel Peterson took his microbiology degree and made two single-vineyard Sonoma County Zinfandels that marked the beginning of one of the most well-known wineries in California. He and his buddy Reed Foster had $4000 and no vineyard or winery of their own, but those two wines went on to earn accolades and awards. Joel soon branched out to making Cabernet and Merlot. His motto is "no wimpy wines," and the longevity and complexity of his early wines are the primary testament to that credo.
