The Etz family has been in the wine business since 1898, and the estate is now in the 4th generation. With nearly 40 hectares of vineyard in production, the Etz estate prides itself on synthesizing the modern and the traditional. Their goal is to offer wines that show themselves from vineyard to bottle entirely in harmony with nature and the environment, from parcels planted around the famous wine-town Strass. Gaisberg, Galgenberg (that's the gallows-hill, folks), and Wechselberg are among the famous vineyard names to be found in the Etz collection. The Etz brothers place their emphasis on a peppery and spicy style of Grüner Veltliner - exclusively fermented in super-stainless steel tanks. Temperature controlled fermentations are conducted with indigenous as well as cultured yeast, depending on the demands of the individual lot. Time resting on the fine-lees adds complexity and polish to the wine.

John Gilman: " I had never previously tasted any wines from Reinhard Löwenstein, but had heard reports that his dry rieslings are a specialty of his and amongst the best in the Mosel. I was completely smitten by the quality of his auction Long Gold Kap, as the wine delivers a complex and heavily botrytized wine with structural sizzle and fine delicacy of step. The fine bouquet offers up a botrytis blend of pear, white cherries, peach, minerals, honeycomb, and spring flowers in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, crisp and focused, with a lovely, creamy attack of botrytis, bright and tensile acids, an excellent base of minerality, and great cut and grip on the racy finish." Vinous: "The 2024 Grüner Veltliner Kamptal Terrassen comes from various sites in Kamptal, across different altitudes and from younger vines of the single sites. It was made in stainless steel. Creamy, lemony yeast is the first accent on the nose, followed by wet pebble. Joel B Payne of Vinous writes: "Michaela Allram took over the family estate in its third generation with her winemaking husband Erich Haas in 1992. Among their 30 hectares of organic vineyards are choice parcels in both the Heiligenstein and Gaisberg sites. Although they export a majority of their wines, they're not as well known as some of their colleagues. That is a pity, for their wines are alluring and approachable and often among the finest produced in the Kamptal."

In the post-war era, Walter Allram transformed a small farm in northwest Austria from a couple of fields and vineyards into a winery of about 12 hectares. He distributed his own wines and made a name for himself. In the 1980s, Walter passed the winery down to his daughter Michaela and her husband Erich, and in 2015, their son Lorenz Haas-Allram took over. By the way, Walter Allram, now 90 years old, is still in the vineyard every day… and he claims to know each vine personally.

96 points Wine Advocate: "From the site Im Weingebirge, fermented in stainless steel, aged in a large oak cask and bottled in April last year, the 2008 Riesling Vinothek is clear and deep on the initially somewhat untamed and gamey as well as flor-inflected and slightly oaky nose that nevertheless indicates very clear and healthy, elegant and concentrated fruit with flinty notes, and it gains clarity and complexity with air. Aeration is highly recommended here and gives way to ginger notes and detailed terroir notes representing the amphibolite, loess and paragneiss of the soil. On the palate, this is a concentrated, fresh and elegant, tightly structured and refreshing mineral Riesling whose grip is still firm and biting (12 milligrams per liter of free sulfur dioxide). This is still a discreet wine that is to be handled with care and a carafe. I kept the bottle for five days to taste the wine again since the first impression represented caged potential rather than revelation. The second tasting showed a little bit more open and finessed, pure, fresh and saline yet still not singing. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2025. 2008 was not an easy vintage on the Danube. The mild winter was followed by an early budbreak. Flowering from mid-June was delayed, and the entire vegetation period was characterized by heavy rainfall. The summer hardly took place and led to a damp, cool fall. This 2022 vintage is the first where the Lyra- and Guyot-trained vines were co-harvested and co-fermented.
