2023 Rosi Schuster "Aus den Dörfern" Grüner Veltliner Burgenland
93
James Suckling
Review Date: 09/2024What fascinating aromas of flint, quince and bergamot. Medium-bodied with a restrained, creamy texture married to a terrific citric freshness. Excellent concentration and balance for an entry-level wine. A unique dry white that’s mostly a field blend based on gruner veltliner. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (SP)

As the name suggests, the 2023 Aus den Dörfern is a wine from several villages: Oslip, Sankt Margarethen, Schützen am Gebirge, Mörbisch and Rust. More than half of this is Grüner Veltliner with Chardonnay, Furmint, Welschriesling and a touch of Weissburgunder. While this is not a field blend, the grapes are co-harvested and co-fermented. A vivid touch of apple is scented on the nose, trailing salty yeast and crushed yarrow aromas. The palate is superbly slender and vividly fresh, seemingly carrying its yeast still with it despite being clear in the glass. The freshness and brightness of this earthy, clear, bright wine are astonishing. This was partially fermented in stainless steel and used wood. (AK)
