Reviewed September 2024This has incredibly beautiful, exotic-fruit aromas. Although full-bodied, it also has a remarkable freshness that keeps it very concentrated, straight and precise. Then comes the extremely long and intense salty finish with great dried-herb complexity. Drinkable now but best from 2026.

The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Loibner Vinothekfüllung Smaragd is made from the ripest grapes from across Knoll's single sites. A touch of ripe russet pear on the nose comes with leesy savor. The palate is rounded but has an immense, gentle flow. While this is mild, it does not taste super-ripe either. It is a wine of great equanimity, with deep, yeasty savor and a textured mid-palate that comes across as harmonious rather than powerful, which you would expect. (Bone-dry)(AK)
