The 2023 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett opens with substantial depth and a brilliant bouquet of wet slate. The fruit is intense but not dominating, thanks to the flintiness and savoriness of the Himmelreich terroir. On the palate, this is a mouth-filling, dense and complex Kabinett with ripe, elegant and juicy fruit intertwined with very fine phenols and an ethereal slate thread that gives this Kabinett an enormous length and animation. This will be a superb gastronomic wine after a decade of bottle age, although the 2023 already drinks beautifully today. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. The 2024 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer Kabinett still carries quite some reduction but the palate already started the party. It is stony tautness and immense citrus juiciness entwined, wonderfully rippling, dynamic and energetic, yet without hurry. Gorgeous lightness makes this feel effortless, tender, exquisite. Very fresh and animating, this light-bodied Mosel has delightful delicacy. I love the fresh apple, white peach and fresh herb aromas. Off-dry, with a well-integrated touch of natural grape sweetness. Long, crisp finish. Drink or hold.

The 2024 Riesling Oestricher Lenchen Kabinett has a touch of woodruff on the nose before lemon kicks in. The palate is so beautifully light and bright. This has found its groove at around 45 g/L of residual sugar set against 8 g/L of acidity. (Medium)(AK)

Ripe black cherry, blackcurrant and lime aromas followed by juicy, luscious fruit on the palate. Quite sweet ("How else to keep down the alcohol?" asks Schug), but manages an appropriate lightness of touch and shows plenty of slate, salt and spice in a quite invigorating finish. One seems to taste here the advantages of Bernkastel's soils in retaining moisture. Potential 2 stars.(DS)

Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett (AP 21 17) is deep, cool and flinty on the nose, pretty mineral though still a bit reductive. Round, intense and juicy, this is a densely woven Kabinett with ripe nectarine and plummy flavors as well as a tightly woven and refreshing mineral structure. The finish is pretty persistent and extremely stimulating. Compared to the Badstube, the Himmelreich is more aromatic and expressive. (SR)" (04/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 1992 Carl Schmitt-Wagner Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg Kabinett. Bruno Schmitt-Wagner is on of the sweetest men I have met, you can immediately see it in his eyes the passion and commitment he has to his vines and his wines. Here is a man who has been among the same vines his entire life and with no regret from what I can tell. I have visited the Estate a few times now and each time I leave thinking the same thing: that these are some of the most distinctive and purely delicious Rieslings in the Mosel hands down and they improve for many, many, many years. Bruno has on each occasion pulled up some really amazing old bottles and made us guess the vintages blind, I am always guessing too young, like a Kabinett I guessed was from the late eighties which turned out to be a 1966. Oh well, you can win them all. All of these bottles have come direct from Bruno's cellar and considering what I have tasted over the years they are positively young.
