Chartreuse Gentiane Des Peres Chartreux Liqueur Aperitif (700ml)
Chartreuse Gentiane Des Peres Chartreux Liqueur Aperitif (700ml)

Chartreuse Gentiane is a distinctive and historically grounded liqueur created in 1998 by the Carthusian monks, drawing on centuries of botanical knowledge and their enduring tradition of herbal distillation. Built on a beetroot based spirit, this expression highlights gentian root sourced from the French Alps, a plant long prized for its intensely bitter, aromatic qualities. The gentian forms the structural backbone of the liqueur and is complemented by a closely guarded blend of herbs and spices, resulting in a profile that is both assertive and remarkably balanced. On the nose, it opens with earthy alpine tones and subtle citrus lift, followed by hints of dried flowers and spice. The palate delivers a firm, unmistakable gentian bitterness that unfolds into layers of citrus peel, herbal depth, and gentle floral accents, all carried by a natural sweetness that keeps the profile lively and refreshing. Bottled at 22.7 percent ABV, Chartreuse Gentiane is vibrant yet approachable, equally suited to aperitif service, classic cocktail applications, or as a bracing digestif. Presented in an apothecary style brown glass bottle with a traditional cork and integrated pour spout, it reflects both the monastic heritage and practical elegance that define the Chartreuse range. This is a compelling expression for lovers of bitter liqueurs, offering depth, authenticity, and unmistakable alpine character in every pour.

Chambéryzette Strawberry Aperitif (750ml)
Chambéryzette Strawberry Aperitif (750ml)

Chambéryzette is one of the great historic aperitifs of the French Alps, first created in 1902 by Rosalie Dolin in Chambéry, the spiritual home of France’s most elegant vermouth traditions. Built on a base of authentic Vermouth de Chambéry, it captures the vivid aromatics and bright acidity of wild alpine strawberries sourced from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, prized for their intensely perfumed character and delicate balance of sweetness and freshness. Unlike simple strawberry liqueurs, this classic expression relies on the structure and botanical complexity of fine vermouth to frame the fruit, resulting in a far more refined and versatile aperitif. Produced by the historic Dolin house, founded in 1821 and long considered a benchmark for traditional French aromatized wines and alpine herbal specialties, Chambéryzette represents over a century of expertise in preserving regional flavor through meticulous craft. In the glass, it offers an exuberant yet elegant profile, with lifted aromas of fresh alpine strawberries, delicate flowers, and subtle herbal undertones. The palate balances vivid red fruit with gentle sweetness and refreshing acidity, supported by the vinous texture and botanical backbone of the vermouth base. The finish is clean, bright, and wonderfully persistent, emphasizing freshness rather than heaviness. Exceptionally versatile, it excels in spritzes, highballs, and creative aperitif cocktails, but is equally compelling served simply chilled. Chambéryzette stands

The house of Emilio Miró is one of the few survivors of the golden age of Vermouth before the Spanish Civil war. Today they're the most prominent remaining producer of Vermut de Reus. The roots of Vermut de Reus extend to 1858, when Reus was the center of the Catalan wine trade. The tradition of La Hora del Vermut (Vermouth Hour) is once again a late afternoon fixture throughout Spain, especially in Catalunya, and the sweet red (rojo) variety is found in nearly every café and bar on ice, with olives and an orange slice or spritz'ed. Meanwhile, bartenders are discovering that the subdued sweetness of Timbal Vermouth shines in classic cocktail proportions as tastes run toward drier yet no less flavorful formulations.

Sarti Rosa Italian Aperitivo Liqueur (700ml)
Sarti Rosa Italian Aperitivo Liqueur (700ml)

Sarti Rosa is a thoroughly modern Italian aperitivo built on a surprisingly deep foundation. Casa Luigi Sarti & Figli was established in Bologna in 1885, earning a reputation for creative, distinctive liqueurs before the Sarti name joined the Campari Group in 1995. This vivid pink expression revives that spirit of invention without pretending to be an unchanged historic recipe. Made with the juices of Sicilian blood orange, mango, and passion fruit, it lands on the fruitier, more exuberant side of the aperitivo spectrum, balancing ripe citrus and tropical sweetness with enough tartness to keep the whole thing bright and refreshing. At 14% ABV, it is effortless over ice and absolutely built for the spritz. The house serve is three parts Prosecco, two parts Sarti Rosa, and a splash of soda, finished with lime. Less austere and overtly bitter than many classic Italian aperitivi, this is an inviting, crowd-pleasing option for warm afternoons, brunch, poolside drinking, or anyone looking to put a vivid new spin on the Italian aperitivo ritual. Colorful, versatile, and dangerously easy to mix, Sarti Rosa feels like a natural addition to the modern home bar.

Scarlet "Aperitivo" Bitter Liqueur (700ml)

Everything this place makes is fantastic. It's just super amazing really high end versions of your favorite amari. This is the Campari analogue, inspired by vintage Campari, and it's just pretty perfect. It has this depth and roundness that's just whacky in how finely tuned it is. There's cola, grapefruit zest, citron, Satsuma, and maybe Gentian all on the nose, it's so vivid and complex and just downright interesting. Fantastic mouthfeel and texture on the palate, really great depth with a lot of the same notes showing, there's more kind of a spiciness on the palate with clove, cinnamon, lots of citrus, vanilla, and then then a lingering finish with bitterness vying with sweetness and acidity and finding nothing but balance in the end. This makes me happy on a profound and deep level.

St. George Bruto Americano Bitter Aperitivo Liqueur (750ml)

A new year can hardly pass without another radiant offering from Lance Winters and Alameda-based St. George Spirits. Bruto Americano is an American aperitivo, bittered largely with gentian root, while California-grown Seville oranges and buckthorn bark provide orange and woodsy notes. The flavor may recall Campari (with a hint of Aperol citrus)—as does the color, a lush vermillion derived from cochineal, as Campari used to be—but the soothing texture and complexity puts it in a category of its own. BA’s gorgeous Italian futurist label shines brilliantly with a sense of novelty, as well as optimism that even crowded, old categories can be refreshed. *Year's Best Spirits 2016* (JM)
