The Lafon Porusots in 2023 is creamy and dense, offering aromas of apricot and quince with a floral note and a bit of spice. The texture is buttery, but balanced with fresh acidity for the vintage, carrying the wine to an impressively long finish. The grapes come from nearly a hectare acquired from the former René Manuel estate in 2010. This massive wine will show better with five to seven years in bottle and should drink over the next 25.(CC)

Lafon's 2023 Meursault Charmes is an instant classic, with aromas of ripe apple and hazelnut accented with a bit of smoky reduction and buttery depth. The texture is rich yet lively, and the wine lingers persistently on the palate. It is produced from very old vines from 60-95 years old that are located at the southern end of Charmes Dessus, bordered by Perrières and Puligny-Combottes. The youngest vines are declassified, and the grapes are pressed as whole clusters before fermenting and ageing in cask (25% new) over two winters.(CC)

As is often the case, the Gouttes d'Or from Lafon is among the richest wines in the cellar, with aromas of melon and quince. Tasted out of barrel, there is a bit of reduction. The texture is dense – Pierre Lafon commented: 'It has broader shoulders because there is more soil and the parcel starts lower on the hillside compared to Bouchères.' This wine will open more fully in three to five years and drink for another 20.(CC)

The 2023 Meursault Village comes from several parcels plus younger vines from Charmes and Perrières. It has a harmonious, quite intense bouquet, with walnut and hazelnut infusing the citrus fruit. Lively. Sapid in the mouth, the palate is well balanced with admirable mineralité, satisfying weight and lovely cohesion on the finish. I think this is really enhanced by those younger vines.(NM)

Although 2023 generally lacked acidity, here we have all the tension we want,' says Pierre Lafon. Tasted out of barrel but assembled to resemble the final blend, one could see his reasoning – although there were ripe apple fruit aromas and lush floral notes, there was also noticeable depth and hints of smoke and mineral. The wine was generous but balanced and lingered persistently on the finish. This will drink well young but will continue improving for years in the cellar.(CC)

Lafon’s holding in Clos de la Barre, in the centre of Meursault, produced over 45 barrels in 2022. The wine has a marvellous equilibrium between richness and tension, with high-toned aromas of lemon peel, green apple, hawthorn blossom and spice. There is both lively acidity and a pleasantly plump feel on the palate. The old vines planted in relatively thin soils over the hard limestone base make this a truly special site that consistently delivers.(CC)
