Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1972 by Charlie and Lorna Wagner alongside their son Chuck, building on the family’s farming roots in Rutherford. From the start, their focus was Cabernet Sauvignon, and Caymus quickly became synonymous with the Napa Valley. The winery’s flagship, Caymus Special Selection, remains the only wine to win Wine Spectator’s “Wine of the Year” twice, a testament to its consistent excellence. Grapes are sourced from eight of Napa’s sixteen sub-appellations, allowing for a blend that captures the valley’s diversity while maintaining a signature style—dark color, ripe tannins, and plush fruit. Today, Chuck Wagner and his children continue the tradition.

A new bottling from Caymus! Nurseryman is named for Jenny Wagner's grandfather, Frank Emmolo. His Emmolo Nursery supplied farm owners with quality grapevines during Napa Valley's evolution in becoming a world-renowned wine region. Wineries that put Napa on the map sourced vines from Frank - Napa's key nurseryman. From grapes grown on some of Napa Valley's best Cabernet soils, expect a rich, layered, and textured wine.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. (RP)

Bid on this magnum of 2020 Caymus Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L). The 2020 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon lives up to the Caymus reputation for delivering bold, silken Napa Cabernet. Crafted from select plots across the Napa Valley floor and higher elevation mountain sites, the wine is incredibly soft on the palate with ultra-ripe flavors of black fruit including blackberry, plum, cassis, and black raspberry. Aged in New French Oak, there are likewise distinct hints of vanilla, baking spices and clove in this bottling, which benefitted from the warm 2020 vintage.

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Caymus "40th Anniversary" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 92IWR, 91WS). Wine Advocate: "They appear to be immune to some of winedom’s less than intelligent trends and fads that we see from time to time, and the result is a spectacular 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary offering. Its dense purple/black color is followed by copious quantities of crème de cassis and blackberry fruit, silky tannins, a voluptuous texture and stunning purity as well as length. Deep garnet in color, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection comes wafting out of the glass with drop-dead gorgeous scents of Christmas cake, Chinese five spice, sandalwood and dried roses over a core of warm cassis, dried mulberries and stewed tea plus wafts of pencil lead and underbrush. Full-bodied, the palate is oh-so-light on its feet, featuring layers of perfumed black and red fruit preserves and an exquisitely fine-grained frame, finishing long with bags of freshness and loads of minerally sparks. The 2014 Caymus 'Special Selection' Cabernet Sauvignon is an exceptional wine made from this storied Napa Valley estate. Following some time to open, this incredible Cabernet begins to yield profound aromatics of black cherry compote, blueberry pie and boysenberry along with creosote, black tar, milk chocolate and licorice all soaring from the glass. The mouthfeel is rich, voluptuous and intense, as this wine offers exceedingly dense, concentrated flavors of black cherry reduction, blueberry pie, raspberry liquor and boysenberry, alongside milk chocolate shavings and tar, all cascading on to the long mouth coating finish. Although still youthful, the massive tannins will need some time to soften before it reaches its peak. Nonetheless, this is an absolutely beautifully crafted and exceedingly delicious wine from the Wagner’s, which should cellar gracefully for many years to come. (OB)

This delivers almost unbridled plum sauce, blackberry preserve and melted licorice flavors, but keeps a smoldering edge for form while picking up alluring black tea and incense notes on the broad finish. There’s a long echo of chocolate adding to this hedonist’s delight. *Highly Recommended* (JM)
