98 points James Suckling: "Loads of dark tobacco aromas with blackcurrants and black olives. Boysenberries, too. Full to medium body, ultra-fine tannins and lots of flavors of smoke, dried roasted chillis, black truffles, mushrooms and fruit. Bright acidity on the finish. Sexy and subtle austerity. Alluring." (01/2017) 98 points The Wine Independent: "A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot, the 2014 Dominus is deep garnet in color. It waltzes out with flamboyant notes of blackcurrant jelly, baked plums, and boysenberry preserves, leading to suggestions of menthol, cast-iron pan, smoked meats, and cloves. The full-bodied palate is dense, muscular, and still very youthful, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and earthy. (LPB)" 97 points Wine Advocate: "The 2014s, where the production of Napanook was only 2,200 cases and Dominus slightly more than the 2015 at 4,000 cases, was another early harvest, although somewhat later than 2015. The 2014 Dominus, which is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot really struts its stuff. Moueix’s belief in dry farming seems to be paying off with stronger and stronger vintages, each successive year, and the 2014 is a sexy, opulent, layered, multidimensional wine with notes of red and blackcurrant, cedar wood, tobacco leaf , spice box and licorice. The color is a dense plum/ruby/purple, much like the Napanook. This is a beauty that is already drinking gorgeously – as most 2014s are – and will continue to evolve for 25 or so years. (RP)" (10/2016) 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from their valley floor site in Yountville, the 2014 Dominus is a rich, concentrated red, especially in 2014. It sports a deep ruby/plum color as well as a ripe nose of blackcurrants, unsmoked tobacco, lead pencil, licorice and smoked earth. With a ripe, full-bodied, concentrated style, sweet tannin, and a great finish, it has some similarities to the 1990 and will evolve for three decades or more." (12/2017) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This offers a core of gently mulled black currant and black cherry fruit mixed in with menthol, melted licorice and sweet tobacco notes. There's an alluring brushstroke of warm paving stone that underscores the fruit through the lengthy and poised finish. Seriously long. A beautiful example of the understated, confident style. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. (JM)" (09/2024) 95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Dominus is a pretty, relatively delicate wine with soft tannins, notwithstanding its fine depth. Red cherry fruit, spice, cedar, leather and pipe tobacco all show the first signs of maturity. I imagine the 2014 will be at its best over the next decade, perhaps a bit more, even if it does not have the intensity of the very best vintages. Readers will find a Dominus of finesse more than power. I find the 2014 a bit hushed today and also not totally in balance, as the aromatics are a bit more forward than the palate. That could be how the wine is evolving, or simply how it is settling into its next phase. The August 2014 earthquake caused many creeks, some of them underground, to flow again, markedly changing the character of some wines, Dominus among them. (AG) " (01/2025) 95 points Decanter: "An initially reticent bouquet opens in the decanter and glass to reveal notes of blackberry, rich spice, tobacco leaf, elderberry and lily pollen. On the palate, fine, powdery tannins frame an elegant, deep wine with a lovely core of cool fruit. This will require some time in the cellar to reveal all its potential. (WK)" (05/2017)

Composition: 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine was aged for 20 months in 40% new French oak.
98 points Wine Advocate: "Blending the best of French savoir faire with the brilliant fruit purity and ripeness of Napa Valley, Moueix has turned in another tour de force that seems far superior today than it did when it was first released. This is one of the vintage’s greatest wines. Dense purple and youthful, with a glorious nose of earth, blackcurrants, sweet black cherries and incense, the oak is pushed way in the background, as it is in all of the Moueix wines, and the result is a wine of terroir, of great originality and authenticity. This full-bodied classic from Dominus can be drunk now, but really won’t hit its prime for another 4-5 years and last at least another two decades or more. (RP)" (06/2015) 95 points Vinous: "Dark red-ruby. Knockout nose combines raspberry, plum, mocha, game, minerals and tobacco. Offers alluring Right Bank sweetness but also superb energy and definition; a lovely combination of Old World nuance and dark Napa Valley fruit. As suave and fine-grained as this wine is, it's also penetrating and gripping, stony and high-pitched. Finishes with terrific tannic spine and mineral reserve. This very youthful wine still has upside. (ST)" (05/2016)
From the famous Oakville estate, attention to detail at Dominus in 2011 resulted in very successful vintage for this Napa Valley icon. The cool growing season set many California wineries into panic attacks as October rains began to threaten, but the Bordelais winemaking experience at Dominus paid off and they didn't break a sweat. Such harvests aren't uncommon at Dominus' sister winery Chateau Petrus in Pomerol. Aided by the fact that the grapes at Dominus ripen a bit earlier than other Napa Valley vineyards because of the estate's dry-farming techniques, a selective harvest of ripe and healthy grapes was made and the proof is in the bottle. From the winery: "The 2011 vintage displays fresh almond, wild strawberry and cassis. The wine has delicate notes of smooth caramel. Polished tannins, dark berries, cocoa and sage accompany a long elegant finish."
97 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blueberries, ash and stones with hints of blackberries, orange peel and chocolate. It’s medium-bodied with medium-round tannins that are polished and velvety but always in check. Cedar and baking spices like nutmeg on the palate. Lovely soft and silky texture with a long finish. Enchanting and delicious. 92% cabernet sauvginon, 4% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. From organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold." 94 points Wine Advocate: "Easily rivaling the excellent 2021—might it be even better?—Dominus's 2023 Napanook originates largely from the middle portion of the vineyard as a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Qualitatively and stylistically, it sits nicely between the lighter, crisper Othello and the vin de garde produced from the more gravelly section of the vineyard at the back, closest to the Mayacamas. Cherries and dusty loam are joined by hints of vanilla on the nose, while the medium- to full-bodied palate is lush, with a seductive swell of fruit and tannins that flows seamlessly into a long finish tinged with black olives and black tea, framed by soft tannins." 94 points The Wine Palate: "The 2023 Napanook is composed of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it strides confidently out of the glass with bold notes of black cherries, warm cassis, and tilled soil, giving way to hints of wild sage, graphite, black pepper, and underbrush. Full-bodied, the palate delivers a solid backbone of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness to back up the muscular black fruit layers, finishing long and earthy. (LPB)" (01/2026) 93 points Vinous: "The 2023 Napanook is deep, bold and luscious right out of the gate. Black cherry, lavender, dried herbs and graphite fill out its mid-weight frame quite nicely. I expect the 2023 will drink well with minimal cellaring, as it is already quite open and doesn't quite have the tannic palate presence of more important years." 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Deep purple-hued and the second wine of this reference point domaine, the 2023 Napanook offers classic currants, leafy tobacco, graphite, and underbrush notes in a medium-bodied, very pretty, pure, elegant, and graceful style. Based on 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot and aged 20 months in 20% new French oak, it has ripe and polished tannins, perfectly integrated acidity, and a great finish. This classic, classy Cabernet will keep for 10-15 years. Drink 2025-2040."
99 points Decanter: "With a good decant, the compact, quiet bouquet of this 2020 Dominus begins to show off, exhibiting perfumed aromatics of dark-toned berry fruit, blood orange, and cocoa nibs. It boasts impressive staying power with a real depth of concentration of fruit. Long strands of velvety tannins are interwoven around pure and symphonic black-toned fruit, while bright and present acidity provides the kind of lift that makes the wine seem almost featherweight. A beautiful red florality envelops the finish. Winemaker Tod Mostero said that hours before the Glass Fire on 27 September, they had just brought in the last of their grapes. It's a good thing, too, because it's a splendid wine and deserves to share the spotlight with the best wines of the vintage. Aged 16-18 months in 40% new French oak. (JC)" (12/2023) 98 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackcurrants, black cherries, hints of graphite, wet earth, and lavender. Sandalwood. Full-bodied with an impressive and refined structure that runs deep and vertical in the wine. Chewy. Hints of chocolate and hazelnut at the end. " (02/2023) 96 points The Wine Independent: "A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Dominus has a deep garnet-purple color. It rolls out of the glass with expressive notes of baked blackberries, preserved plums, and kirsch, with suggestions of Indian spices, sandalwood, potpourri, and black truffles, plus a ferrous hint. The full-bodied palate delivers a firm, grainy texture with just enough freshness to support the generous fruit, finishing long and oh-so-spicy. Yum!" 95 points Wine Spectator: "This throws off dense kirsch and linzer torte aromas and flavors, along with a mix of smoldering tobacco, leather, warm paving stone and licorice root hints that provide a brooding edge on the back end. Surprisingly backward (for the vintage) and impressively done. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. (JM)" (07/2023) 95 points Wine Advocate: "An excellent wine, even if not a great Dominus, the 2020 Dominus delivers waves of dark fruit—think predominantly cassis. A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, it's full-bodied and richly textured, perhaps a bit warm and open-knit because of the summer's heat, but with a long, velvety finish attractively tinged with mocha and dark chocolate. (JC)" (06/2023) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I'd put the 2020 Dominus up with the best in the vintage, and Tod commented that he actually liked the 2020 more than the 2019. I wouldn't go that far, but there's no denying this is a beautiful wine loaded with darker currants, cassis, graphite, and chalky minerality. It's medium to full-bodied, has a dense, inward, concentrated style, fine-grained tannins, and a solid mid-palate of both power and finesse. It should benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have two decades of overall longevity." (12/2023) 93 points Vinous: "The 2020 Dominus is one of the wines of the vintage in this crazy year marked by drought and fires. There's plenty of upfront richness and fruit, but the mid-palate and finish taper off faster than they would in a higher-quality vintage. Here, too, the balance is notable, even if there is no escaping the reality that the 2020 is a relatively small-scaled Dominus. (AG)" (12/2023)

100 points The Wine Palate: "The 2023 Dominus is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. Opaque purple-black in color, it slowly unfurls to reveal a powerful core of blackcurrant jelly, ripe black plums, and fresh blueberries, followed by hints of menthol, crushed rocks, dried sage, black truffles, and black olives. The full-bodied palate is both generous and energetic, displaying an impressive array of savory and earthy nuances among the dense black fruit layers and a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and beautiful tension, finishing with epic length. " 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Based on 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot and aged 20 months in 40% new French oak, the 2023 Dominus is absolutely gorgeous, with an incredible level of purity and refinement. Cassis, graphite, crushed stone, melted crayons, and floral nuances all define the aromatics. It's medium to full-bodied, with seamless, refined elegance, ultra-fine tannins, beautiful mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. This more charming, forward, and seductive style of Dominus will offer incredible appeal over the next 20-25 years or more." 96 points Vinous: "The 2023 Dominus is a very pretty, surprisingly open-knit wine from this estate. Soft contours wrap around a core of pliant red/purplish fruit. Lavender, rose petal and gently spiced overtones caress the mid-palate and finish. I expect the 2023 will drink well with minimal cellaring, something that is rarely the case here. "

90 points Vinous: "The 2023 Othello is a tasty entry-level bottling from the front blocks on the property, those on either side of Hopper Creek. Juicy dark red fruit, cinnamon, new leather and cedar are pushed forward in this delicious, effortless Cabernet Sauvignon. Best of all, this should be a fabulous value, too. (AG) " (11/2025)
97 points James Suckling: "Gorgeous aromas of plums and currants with some wet earth, mushroom, bark and incense undertones. Woody. Medium-to full-bodied with such beautiful depth and length. So subtle and long. Fabulous harmony. One of the best I have ever tasted. " (05/2021) 97 points Decanter: "Beautifully enticing, it has developed notes of red currants and boyenberry fruit wrapped in tobacco leaves, tinged with vanilla. Mineral-scented Bing cherry fruit and impressively floral notes abound on the palate, with medium-bodied richness and excellent and expressive building tannins that fuel this robust red. For all its robustness, it has an unbelievable lightness to it. It's a balletic red of power and grace with great freshness. (JC)" (01/2024) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Napanook showed incredibly well, with fabulous crème de cassis, spring flowers, graphite, and green tobacco aromas and flavors. With terrific ripeness, medium to full body, and ripe, yet polished tannins, this beauty should be snatched up by savvy readers. It should evolve for 15 years or more. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, aged in 20% new French oak." (01/2021) 93 points Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Napanook leaps from the glass with vivacious scents of fresh blueberries, black cherries, crushed blackcurrants and redcurrant jelly with hints of pencil shavings, red roses and dusty soil plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate is very tightly wound, allowing glimpses at loads of mineral and savory nuances among the taut black and red fruit notes, supported by fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift. (LPB) 93+" (02/2021) 93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Napanook is every bit the charmer it was last year. Succulent and racy out of the glass, the 2018 is such a gorgeous wine. Silky tannins and generous fruit give the 2018 so much immediacy and appeal. Black cherry, plum, menthol, spice and licorice are pushed forward. (AG)" (01/2022) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Tightly packed, with red and black currant and cherry reduction notes compressed with sanguine, iron and singed cedar streaks. The long, finely tuned finish has a mouthwatering echo. Approachable, but no rush. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. (JM)" (10/2021)

From the winery: "The Dominus 2010 displays compelling notes of black cherries and plums as well as a hint of graphite and sandalwood. With a round and sweet attack, the chiseled and deftly polished tannins give a savory evolution. Its finish is long and replete with cedar, anise and cacao. The 2010 vintage is composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. In recent years the Napanook vineyard has undergone an extensive replanting program. This, coupled with a rigorous selection of lots for the final blend resulted in the smallest quantity of Dominus produced since 1984."

100 points The Wine Independent: "A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2007 Dominus has a deep garnet color. After a swirl or two, it explodes from the glass with notes of crème de cassis, blueberry preserves, stewed plums, and rose oil, followed by touches of Sichuan pepper, cinnamon toast, and forest floor, with a hint of crushed rocks. The full-bodied palate reveals an incredibly firm, yet approachable, structure of ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness to support the dense, multilayered, slowly evolving black and blue fruits, finishing with a whole firework display of spices, floral notes, and minerals." 98 points Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Dominus may eclipse the 2007, but it may just be a matter of style. The 2007 Dominus, the quintessential model of haute couture, is pure elegance exhibiting a seamless integration of wood, tannin, alcohol and acidity as well as a complex bouquet of cedar, new saddle leather, sweet kirsch, black currant and plum fruit and a notion of licorice. (RP)" (12/2010) 97 points Decanter: "This mature wine remains dark black-red in colour. Dark chocolate, roast meat and forest resins haunt the blackberry and plum fruits, but it’s surprisingly vital too, with ringing, resonant, ripe acidity in orbit with the flesh, soft textures and overall amplitude. Pure Napa class. (AJ)" (10/2018) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Easily the greatest Dominus in memory. Comes down on the drier, lower alcohol and less ripe side than many Cabs in its league, yet lacks for nothing in complexity and sheer deliciousness. Tantalizes with blackberry tart, cherry, carob bean and a Pinot Noir-esque cola-rhubarb richness that retreats behind rich tannins and an earthiness suggesting sweet blond tobacco and dried sage. Clearly ageable, it will develop bottle complexity over the next 12 years, at least. It’s 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a few drops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. *Top 100 Cellar Selections 2010* " (11/2010) 96 points Wine & Spirits: "Pure Cabernet in its curranty blackness, this is a top vintage of Dominus: It has the precision and elegance of a wine from a great vineyard. The aromas of currants and black figs meld with the mineral tightness of the tannin; there's suppleness to the tannin that points up red tones in the fruit, seeming to glow from within. The wine is comforting and challenging at once, holding its freshness and bearing as it evolves over the course of several days. " (12/2010) 95 points Vinous: "Saturated dark red with ruby tones. Bordeaux-like scents of currant, black cherry, blackberry, cedar, mocha and spicecake, with a cool medicinal note adding interest. This very suave, fine-grained wine starts closed but juicy, then builds steadily along its length (like a good Cuban cigar!), with flavors of dark berries, licorice and sweet spices continuing through a juicy, rising finish that leaves the palate vibrating. A very subtle wine of great finesse and insidious intensity, though not particularly Napa-like in its texture or weight. The tannins really dust the palate and linger. This very distinctive wine has a long life ahead of it. (ST)" (05/2017) Jancis Robinson: "Another very good vintage. Dark glossy crimson. Complex and seductive nose – more immediately accessible than the 2006. Round and fresh and lovely supple tannins. Already gorgeous. Lift of the heels. Real lift overall. Round. Clean. Tannins lurk but they are fresh and ripe. 18.5/20 points (JR)" (10/2013)
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100DC, 100JS, 100RP, 100TWI, 98VN, 97WS). Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Dominus is, to my way of thinking, one of the most profound wines Christian Moueix has yet made in his rather brilliant winemaking history, both in France and in Napa Valley. This wine, with very low yields of only 3, 500 cases and a final blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, offers up notes of cedar wood, forest floor, loamy soil and oodles of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Very opaque purple in color, super-pure and intense, this wine has low acidity, but ripe, noticeable tannins. This is a 30- to 40-year wine and a profound effort from this famous vineyard in Yountville. (RP)" (10/2015)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2019 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100TWI, 98JS, 98RP, 98VN, 96JD, 96WS). The Wine Independent: "... the 2019 Dominus was harvested from September 29 to October 10... Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose slowly unfurls to unveil beguiling floral notes of candied violets and rose oil over a core of crème de cassis, blackberry pie, and plum preserves, giving way to notions of licorice, Indian spices, iron ore, and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with taut, muscular black fruit layers, intertwined with gorgeous floral and exotic spice accents, and framed by firm, finely grained tannins with seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. Tightly coiled with so much latent energy waiting to explode, this is a spectacular expression of the vintage and Napanook vineyard. Still tightly coiled, give it a good 6-7 years in the cellar before broaching, and allow it a few hours in a decanter if consumed before 2032. (LPB)" (03/2022)

Full-bodied with a tight center palate, then it opens with a tannin structure that is weightless and spreads across the palate. Totally integrated on the palate. This is a magic-carpet wine. Really incredible. One of the reference points for the vintage." (05/2021)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2017 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98VN, 97JD, 97JS, 96TWI, 96WE, 95WS). Vinous: "The 2017 Dominus is one of the truly epic, grand wines of the vintage. Rich, dense and explosive, with tremendous concentration and sheer power, the 2017 Dominus captures all the personality of this site along with the natural opulence of the year. Inky dark fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice, plum, gravel and a host of dark spice notes infuse the 2017 with seemingly endless layers of nuance. Over the last two years I have tasted several hundred Napa Valley Cabernets, both from barrel and bottle. There is no question that Dominus belongs among the elite in 2017; it is simply a breathtaking wine. Certainly readers looking for a Napa Valley Cabernet to cellar should put Dominus at the top of their lists. (AG) 98+" (01/2020)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (94DC, 93RP, 93ST). Decanter: "The 1995 Dominus is very much cut from the same cloth as the 1994, with a deep bouquet of baked black cherry, cassis, truffle and rich loamy soil, and a full-bodied, powerful and rather old-school palate impression. As in the 1994, there is just a touch of torrefection in the fruit tones here which the Dominus team have worked hard to avoid in more recent vintages, but this is a very compelling wine which certainly does nod towards Libourne. It needs a lot of shaking to release notes of baked blackcurrants, fruitcake, and blueberry compote, plus hints of baking chocolate, licorice, dried mint, and pencil lead, plus a waft of wood smoke. The concentrated, hedonically styled, full-bodied palate is jam-packed with layers of black and blue fruit preserves, framed by wonderfully ripe, grainy tannins and well-integrated acidity, finishing very long, profound, and shimmery.
