There are 275 cases of the dense, tannic, concentrated, outstanding 1998 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Acres (14.2% alcohol) This effort possesses exquisite purity and fabulously ripe, unmanipulated fruit that cuts a creamy, lush texture on the palate. The Rattlesnake Acres will drink well in 3-4 years and keep for 15 or more. (RP)

Medium-deep ruby. Smoky aromas of blackberry, black pepper, black olive, bacon fat, eucalyptus and meat. Firm acidity gives the blackberry and pepper flavors an enticingly juicy quality and lovely inner-mouth lift. Rather Rhone-like in texture, but a bit dominated today by its tough tannins. Not as ripe as the '97.

A big, muscular, hearty style, rich in ripe stewed plum, white pepper and beefy notes, turning firm and chewy.
