The Abudarham Madeira house was founded in the 1860s by a Jewish family that came to the island via Gibraltar as part of a larger immigration from Morocco. In early 1940, another wave of refugees came to Funchal, Madeira from Gibraltar because of the onset of WWII. Many of these older vintages of Abudarham were imported by the famed Corti brothers of Sacramento.
