Adrien Camut 6 year old Calvados Pays d'Auge (750ml)
92
Vinous
Review Date: 11/2018This easy-going, six-year-old from Adrien Camut is so mellow that the drinking experience might seem akin to a reggae beat. Honeyed-gold in color, there’s an affable, round, expressive nose of fresh apple and toffee, and in the mouth it’s rich and mouthcoating, with notes of coffee and chocolate that are balanced by freshness on the midpalate that glides into a lengthy finish. This Calvados is in no hurry. (JW)

Notes
Camut's 6 year old is simply astounding. Camut has always been the benchmark for Calvados, and this new batch of 6 year might now even outshine the immortal 12 year old. Crisp, juicy cider notes mix with a modest amount of barrel aging, all working in perfect unison. The acidity of the apples carries through into the spirit, despite being distilled twice. Apple brandies should have an even balance of fruit and richness, so I tend to prefer the 8- to 12-year-olds more than the older offerings. However, this 6 year is as good as Calvados gets for me.
