Adrien Camut 6 year old Calvados Pays d'Auge (750ml)
92
Vinous
Review Date: 11/2018This easy-going, six-year-old from Adrien Camut is so mellow that the drinking experience might seem akin to a reggae beat. Honeyed-gold in color, there’s an affable, round, expressive nose of fresh apple and toffee, and in the mouth it’s rich and mouthcoating, with notes of coffee and chocolate that are balanced by freshness on the midpalate that glides into a lengthy finish. This Calvados is in no hurry. (JW)

Notes
Camut's 6 year old is simply astounding. Camut has always been the benchmark, and 6 year might now even outshine some older offerings. Crisp, juicy cider notes mix with the unique Camut aging process all working in perfect unison. The acidity of the apples carries through into the spirit, despite being distilled twice, since it's aged in large old barrels in the oxidative style. Apple brandies should have an even balance of fruit and richness usually provided by at least some oak influence, but Camut achieves glory with an unprecedentedly light touch. This 6 year is as good as young Calvados gets.
