El Tesoro de Don Felipé Tequila began in 1937 when the brand's namesake founded the traditional distillery in Los Altos (the highlands) of Jalisco, Mexico. The methods implemented by Don Felipé de Jesús Camarena remain intact today, including traditional hornos (ovens) and tahona wheels, alembic stills, and underground aging facilities. The distillery, known as La Alteña, continues its 60-year-old operation in the most old-fashioned way possible. As a result of all of this care, the tequilas in El Tesoro's portfolio are some of the purest examples of what tequila should taste like and representative of the sweeter style of tequilas produced in Los Altos. If you are looking for a real agave flavor, this will be a tequila to try. 93 points and a Gold Medal from the Beverage Testing Institute: "Silvery straw color. Fresh aromas and flavors of mature, sweet agave, candied tangerine and pineapple, rosemary, sugar snap peas, and aloe with a silky, vibrant, dryish light body and a tingling, complex, medium-long finish with accents of pear tisane, honeydew, lime zest, flint, and Szechuan peppercorn finish. A pure reposado that lets agave sit front and center; sip neat to enjoy multifaceted nuance or make craveable summer cocktails." (3/2019)
