1996 Oliver Caldwell Cellars Napa Valley 'Aida Vineyard' Zinfandel

Notes

Zinfandel fans are quite familiar with the legendary Aida Vineyard. The Aida wines from Helen Turley have made the vineyard recognized worldwide. Newcomer Oliver Caldwell has jumped on the scene with his first release, the 1996 Zinfandel from the same vineyard. It's a fantastic wine, absolutely loaded with fruit. Wine critic Robert Parker… 'The 1996 Caldwell Zinfandel Aida is similar to the Turley offerings. It possesses a dark ruby color, plenty of spicy oak in the nose, and a sophisticated, elegant, polished personality. The wine is well-balanced, with its 14.8% alcohol amazingly well-hidden by the wine's excellent richness. Tasty and forward, it is capable of lasting 5-7 years.' Caldwell Cellars appears to be headed toward some kind of major breakthrough on the California wine scene, and they've launched an operation that looks fantastic from the vineyard on up. David Abreu manages the vineyard that's located just north of St. Helena and Tom Eddy makes the wine (currently using the facilities at Oakville Ranch winery). Art collectors will also enjoy the label which was designed by Parisian painter Thomas Pradzynski. Extremely limited production of 450 cases.
