The 2025 Riesling Scharzhofberger Spätlese is made from around 30% botrytized fruit that had not yet shriveled. Slight reduction on the nose is already suffused with fruit. Ripe lemon comes with tropical overtones, perhaps of mango, but passion fruit appears, too. Beautiful and fluid sweetness on the palate reveals the botrytis while passion fruit appears again in that concentrated, gilded fruitiness that is nonetheless enticingly tart. Juiciness and absolutely mouthwatering freshness are totally fused, inseparable, delicious, pure. This just rocks. Wow. (Sweet) (AK)

The 2025 Scharzhofberger Spätlese is Egon Müller's one and only Spätlese from this vintage, and it is a brilliant one: generous and complex on the nose, with saline notes and serious mineral substance. This is a textural but light, fresh and highly refined, very elegant and light-footed Spätlese with a savory character and fine phenol grip on the finish. It is maybe not as substantial, intense and complex as the old-vines Kabinett but has lots of charm and finesse. (SR)

100 points, Mosel Fine Wines: "The 2025er Scharzhofberger Spätlese, as it is referred to on the label, is a sweet wine with a gorgeous nose of whipped cream, apricot blossom, pear, citrus fruit, chamomile, mint, and chalky elements. The wine develops a great sense of balance on the palate, where the flavors come over as incredibly detailed and nicely wrapped into a zesty-creamy structure. The finish is stunningly airy, creamy, light-footed, and finely chiseled. This is a little jewel of a Spätlese in the making!"
