Reviewed March 2014Dense, with black cherry and blackberry flavors accented by spice hints, imparting a chalky, minerally sensation. This is firm now, but the finish extends with a mix of fruit, spice and stone notes. Best from 2017 through 2028. (BS)

An earthy and reticent nose of liqueur of both red and dark pinot fruit aromas combine with violet, plum and plenty of pungent earth and humus notes. There is excellent size, weight and punch to the relatively large-scaled flavors that display fine richness and detail on the moderately austere, balanced and impressively persistent finish. This robust effort should also be quite good in time.

Bright, full red. Reticent aromas of bitter chocolate and flowers. Juicy, peppery and tight; showing plenty of spicy, earthy density but very closed today. The big, chewy tannins arrive early, cutting off the wine's fruit. Finishes with attractive floral lift but this wine really needs seven or eight years of cellaring. (ST) 91+
