Reviewed September 2026Sourced from different vineyards across Ribera del Duero, the 2023 Tempranillo was aged for up to 16 months in barrels, 60% American oak and the remainder French, with one-third new. Fine oak frames a fruit profile that moves between freshness and liqueur-like ripeness, joined by flowers, wild herbs and a subtle toasted note. The palate tells a different story: agile and silky, with delicate tannins, a touch of chalky grip and juicy freshness that adds dimension. In a house style often shaped by richness and élevage, the 2023 vintage brings unusual energy and precision. Tempranillo remains a benchmark of modern Ribera. (JH)

The eponymous red 2023 Aalto has an intoxicating nose of expensive oak, toast, smoke and spices over a core of ripe berry fruit. It has a little less ripeness than in previous years, coming in at 14.5% alcohol and keeping a pH of 3.58 and 5.43 grams of acidity. It's powerful and concentrated, with very fine tannins and very good balance. It should develop nicely in bottle. It's an old-vine Tempranillo cuvée matured in French and American oak barrels for 17 months. (LG)

Antonio Moral is a master blender, using grapes from nine different villages in Burgos, Valladolid and Soria to produce this dense, ambitious Tempranillo. Aged in 40% new French and 40% American oak, it has inky depths, plenty of power and concentration, blackberry, fig and liquorice flavours and appealing wood spices. It's a bold wine, but there’s some underlying freshness and focus here too.
