2015 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (2026 Ex-Domaine Release)

Unexpectedly, this is the palest of the three vintages tasted on this occasion. The bouquet shows an abundance of pure white fruit, a little coconut, the stones not quite so apparent on the nose in this relatively rich vintage. Rich liquorice notes at the back. This will need quite a few years to come into balance. The warmer vintage makes the oak show more, but by no means out of balance. A promising wine which needs another five years.

This is exceptionally fresh in the context of the ripe 2015 vintage and a wine that is maturing nicely with its evidently cool aromas of white peach, passion fruit and citrus confit where a hint of secondary fruit lurks in the background. The relatively sleek and solidly concentrated middle weight plus flavors possess both fine volume and richness while exhibiting first-rate length on the stony, mildly austere, lemony and agreeably dry finale. This is clearly still on the way up and while it could easily be enjoyed now, I would hold in the hopes of obtaining more overall depth. Tasted twice in the last year with consistent results (and no premox).
