Reviewed July 2021Powerful, nuanced, smoky, plenty of savoury Cabernet Sauvignon flavours from rose stems and tobacco leaf to richer raspberry, cassis and black chocolate. Nothing overly sweet, plenty of spice with tannic squeeze and lift. All aged in French oak barrels, 43% new. Philippe Bascaules winemaking director.

Full-bodied with lots of layered fruit and round, creamy tannins. The palate shows lovely ripe-berry character with chocolate and hazelnut and a long, flavorful finish. Hints of black truffles. Plenty going on here with a firm framework that gives the wine form and interest.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Rubicon features notes of fragrant earth, dusty soil, and powdered cinnamon, giving way to a core of blackcurrant pastilles and boysenberries with touches of lilacs and black truffles. The full-bodied palate delivers a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and lively acidity to counter the bright black fruits, finishing long and earthy. (LPB) 95+

Decanter
This wine has such excellent drive, powerful but rounded and appealing at the same time. Blackcurrants and milk chocolate combine on the nose followed by a chewy, dark-fruited, liquorice-edged palate. (GH)
