All the fresh garden herbs you could imagine pour from the glass of this extremely beautiful cool-climate riesling, with lemon balm and lemon blossoms. Intensely stony on the concentrated, focused, medium-bodied palate. Great energy and crushed-rock character in the very long, superstructured finish. Sustainable. Drinkable now but best from 2026. The 2024 Riesling Wachstum Bodenstein Smaragd is grown at altitude on the Hochseiber, planted in 1990 with a wide genetic variety sourced from Germany, Austria and Alsace. This site was also hit by late spring frost, losing a third of its yield. The nose is initially shy but gives off wet stone, citrus and a suspicion of tropical fruit. The palate is simply exquisite, strait-laced and arrow-like, so concentrated and bright. Purity, verve, poise, direction and such pervasive slenderness.
