2025 Attems Pinot Grigio Ramato

The Attems estate boasts a millennium of history in the far northeastern corner of Italy, nestled in the Collio region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. While the modern world is accustomed to Pinot Grigio being a crisp, clear white wine, the "Ramato" (meaning coppery) style is actually a vivid return to the Republic of Venice's ancient winemaking traditions. Because Pinot Grigio is a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir, its skins are naturally a dusty pink-gray. By allowing the juice to rest on these skins during fermentation, Attems extracts a gorgeous, copper-pink hue and a stunning layer of texture. Grown in the region's famous ponca soils—stratified layers of marine marl and sandstone—this wine delivers intense saline minerality. In the glass, it looks like a rosé but drinks with the savory complexity of an amber wine. The nose offers wild strawberry, dried cherry, and a hint of broom flower. On the palate, the skin contact provides a delicate tannic grip, wrapping around a vibrant, structured core of red fruit and crushed stone.
