From Lewis Vineyard and Les Collines in The Rocks, a 60-40 split, the 2023 Syrah Levitation Reserve is brambly in raspberry, with ample dried and fresh herbs and a complex, sinewy texture. Fermented 23% whole-cluster and aged 16 months in neutral French oak puncheon and concrete, there’s a memorable savory, meaty character from Lewis, a site Trey Busch has worked with for a quarter of a century, since his days at Dunham. Les Collines provides muscle and structure as well as dark plum and blackberry, the tannins fierce and substantial. Give this full-bodied wine some time; drink 2028-2035.

Int'l Wine Review
Sixteen months of aging in neutral French wood puncheons and concrete tanks, following a fermentation incorporating 23% whole-cluster inclusion, shapes the athletic, structural core of the 2023 Sleight of Hand Levitation Red Wine, Columbia Valley. This blend, drawing 60% of its fruit from Lewis Vineyard and 40% from Les Collines, unfurls with secondary nuances of roasted game, wild thyme, and crushed sage. Taut, fine-grained tannins frame a concentrated palate of wild boysenberry and tart marionberry, underpinned by a distinct iron-like minerality with a touch of dried lavender. There is a striking juxtaposition between the rustic earthiness of the Rocks District fruit and the bright acidity that carries into a remarkably savory, endless finish.

The 2023 Sleight of Hand ‘Levitation Reserve’ Syrah is an ebullient bottling coming entirely from the famed Lewis Vineyard — a Columbia Valley site planted to a range of varietals, from Syrah and Chardonnay, set at 1270 feet. This bottling was aged in a combination of concrete tanks, neutral French oak and a touch of new French oak before bottling. It stands inky in the glass, showing its very classic purple flower character on the nose, with black Sharpie pen, smoked beef brisket, iodine and tar accents, alongside blackberry preserves. The palate is dense and heady, with no rough edges and lovely freshness. Enjoy this outstanding new Syrah over the next ten plus years. Drink 2025-2035

Vinous
An air of shaved pine mixes with rosemary, dried violets and lavender to form a delicate bouquet as the 2023 Levitation Reserve evolves in the glass. It is silken in form, more weighty than expected, with a core of zesty acidity that propels its mineral-laced wild berry fruits. Juicy throughout and perfumed, the 2023 leaves edgy tannins while maintaining an energetic and mouthwatering freshness. Already a total pleasure to taste, yet with the balance for medium-term cellaring.
