The 2022 Figgins Figlia Red Wine from the Walla Walla Valley is a captivating blend of equal parts Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged with restraint in just 11% new French oak. Aromatically complex, it unveils notes of ripe blackcurrant, crushed boysenberry, and dark plum, interwoven with espresso, lavender, and a whisper of fresh sage. Hints of graphite and cocoa powder add depth to the nose. The palate is lush and impeccably structured, delivering layers of velvety dark fruit, roasted coffee bean, and a touch of toasted herbs. Despite its richness, the wine maintains remarkable vibrancy, which lends precision and balance. Polished tannins create a supple, seamless mouthfeel, while a mineral-driven backbone carries through to an extended, refined finish. Better in 2026.. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.

Ripe plums, cocoa powder, walnuts and dried herbs on the nose of this dark-fruited red. Violets, too. It’s full-bodied, polished and structured, with firm and compact tannins, but it’s silky and velvety in texture. Very long, caressing finish. A blend of petit verdot and merlot. Best after 2027.

Another beautiful release of this wine, the 2022 ‘Figlia’ is a spellbinding amalgamation of equal parts Merlot and Petit Verdot. Over the years I have been enamored by the Petit Verdot coming from the Figgins Estate Vineyard. Simply put, this has to be the finest PV that I taste in Washington State. Stored in a very small portion of new French oak barrels (only 11% down from 26% in the ’21) this opens with green bell pepper, Turkish coffee and violet florals that mingle well with Black Forest Cake tones on the nose. The palate is soft, round and generous, as the seamless texture mingles brilliantly with a generous core of black and blue fruits. Showing good nerve from this slightly cooler vintage, there is not a wine quite like this in the Pacific Northwest. Enjoy now and over the next twenty years. Give this at least an hour in the decanter if savoring now.

A proprietary blend of Merlot and Petit Verdot from Figgins Estate Vineyard, the 2022 Figlia is made to be approachable in its youth and is a screaming deal at its price point, full-bodied in currant, berry, and dried herb, with polished tannins and enough structure to go another 7 -10 years in bottle.
