2022 Giulia Negri ”La Tartufaia“ Barolo

Between the estate’s cool, high-altitude sites, soil specificities, and a reductive winemaking style, Giulia Negri’s wines can be austere and wiry, particularly in their youth, and this is accentuated in 2022. The most outgoing and generous of her three Barolos (relatively speaking) is La Tartufaia. Fragrances recall rhubarb preserve, mint, tarragon and juniper. While lightweight and fine-framed, it fills the space with wild strawberry and earthy forest notes before a biting mineral finish. Tight and clenched, it simmers with flavour intensity and transparency. (MM)
