2022 Turnbull "Black Label" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

Aged 20 months in 100% French oak, with 48% in 600l puncheons and 52% in 225l barrels (25% new, 75% seasoned French oak), this Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from 31% Fortuna Vineyard and 69% Leopoldina Vineyard in Oakville. While it shares the same structure and aromatic complexity as the Reserve, the 2022 Oakville Cabernet presents darker, more lush fruit, with a juicier, black-fruited profile rather than the red-toned brightness of the Reserve. Fragrant cedarwood, walnut, and green tobacco still define the nose, but the tannins here are notably more approachable, making for a rounder, silkier expression. A more immediately expressive and supple Oakville Cabernet, layered with depth and richness, still carries the structure for mid-term ageing. (JC)
