Reviewed December 2017The 2016 Domaine Raveneau Valmur is an absolute classic in the making. The wine offers up great purity and nascent complexity in its aromatic constellation of apple, pear, lovely limestone minerality, a hint of the beeswax to come, citrus zest and a pungent topnote of lemon blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, long and rock solid at the core, with bright, zesty acids, excellent focus and grip and superb backend mineral drive on the very long finish. Great juice. (Drink between 2024-2060)

The Valmur was showing brilliantly when I tasted it in October, offering up a surprisingly expressive bouquet of apple, spring flowers, lemon rind and oyster shell. On the palate the wine is cool, full-bodied and deep, with a taut, bottomless core and intense concentration. It's glossily textural, but layered and very controlled. This will be superb. Drinking Window 2022 - 2035.

One plot located on the left side of the valley, so sheltered from morning and afternoon sunshine. The fruit is more deep and more opulent with a lifted floral edge to the nose, leading to a very succulent, supple, smooth and even palate. Plenty of ripe white peaches. Great fluidity and smooth, long and fleshy presence. There’s impressive depth here. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is a rich, exotic rendition of this great bottling, exhibiting aromas of honeyed peach, crisp apricot and sweet spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied, powerful and layered, with a deep and ample mid-palate, concluding with a long, saline finish. It's a textural, gourmand Valmur that I suspect may resemble the 2001 vintage when it reaches maturity.(NM)
