Reviewed August 2025Tremendous complexity from this mountain Chardonnay from Santa Cruz, plonked into a towering forested area along the ridges at Thomas Fogarty. Coming from the first vineyard planted on the Fogarty estate in 1977 or 78. It shows a note evocative of Savennieries with waxy and savoury aromas that then pick up a richness of juicy Meyer lemon pulp. Honeyed, juicy, and salty, it's a dazzling bottle of a great American Chardonnay. (CP)

Guava and papaya aromas, with coiled acidity on the palate, providing a real feeling of tension in this wine. Drying minerality and lemon pith are concentrated, phenolic, complex and long. Drink or hold, but this will really start to sing in another few years.

The 2023 Chardonnay Damiana Vineyard is the biggest, most voluptuous of the Chardonnays in this range. Row orientation here is east-west, versus north-south plantings for the rest of the estates, which ripens fruit earlier. Powerful notes of mango, guava, toasted spice and honey run through this broad-shouldered, sunny Chardonnay. (BN)
