The 2024 Maranges Clos de la Boutière 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 90+ year-old vines from a very old massale selection. This has an open, airy bouquet of shimmering red fruit, plenty of vigour and perhaps the one cuvée that is a little Côte de Nuits in style. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Finely structured, a "cool" Maranges that perhaps just needs a tad more complexity to manifest on the finish. But still, this is a classy Maranges that should give over a decade of drinking pleasure like La Fussière.(NM)

One of the lowest yields at 15 hl/ha. Slightly the deepest purple of the reds, though the bouquet is less immediately expressive than Fussière. Cherry kernels, a mix of red and black, more tannins from the clay in the soil. A solid wine with excellent ageing potential Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Nov 2025.

Here the wood treatment is more visible though by no means intrusive on the cool and airy nose of plum, dark currant and humus-tinged earth. The succulent, round and fleshy medium weight flavors also possess good vibrancy that carries over to the moderately rustic if impressively persistent finish. This is potentially quite good though clearly a wine that's going to require at least a modicum of patience.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Over 90-year-old vines, a massale selection. from lower on the slope, so with more clay soils. An extra something to this nose – not so forward, but the width on display has stunning clarity of dark fruit. Fluid, still concentrated – becoming panoramic. The finish is achingly long with gorgeous fruit, slightly perfumed and a small tannin in the middle, but hardly drying – great wine in 2 years !!"(01/2026)
