The 2024 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Rouge, which comes from limestone soils, has a charming floral nose that is very pure, with scents of crushed strawberry and tayberry, more fruit-forward compared to the Vieilles Vignes. The palate is framed by pliant tannins and quite a vibrant line of acidity that keeps this on its toes. The mineral core is more apparent towards the finish as it lingers tenderly in the mouth. This is a benchmark Maranges that sets the standard for others to follow.(NM)

Jasper Morris

The domaine has 4.5ha across eleven plots, made separately and blended at the end of the first year. A glowing ruby purple. More floral in style than the growlier Clos Roussot, yet with an impressive density and tension in the vibrant red fruit, plenty still in reserve here, a strong mineral finish. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2025.

Note: from a massive holding of 4.5 ha in pinot plus another 1.5 ha planted to chardonnay. This is aromatically similar to the old vines Maranges but with even more spice and earth components in evidence. The sleeker, fine and more mineral-driven middle weight flavors possess a more sophisticated mouthfeel before culminating in a sneaky long, complex and well-balanced finale. This is supple enough on the mid-palate that it could easily be approached after only 2 to 3 years of keeping if desired.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "6 hectares with a mix of red and white. 9 different parcels – one was 100% wc and blended with all the others. Our most mineral red. A different nose – wide in the middle, fresh, more mentholated in style – very attractive. Oh yes; so supple and fluid – there’s tannin, again grainless but this time hardly drying. So juicy – fruit of energy and clarity – yes – great Maranges…"(01/2026)
