Review Date: 06/2011A brilliant effort from Mondavi, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot) exhibits complex aromatics of forest floor, sweet black cherry and black currant fruit, vanillin and lead pencil shavings. Notes
92 points from Neal Martin for Wine Advocate: "This has a backward blackberry, blackcurrant wine gums, blueberry and a hint of iodine. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied, very sleek and velvety on the entry, polished, lots of new oak and despite its age, feels as if there is still some “puppy fat” to be subsumed. The finish has great purity and a little more panache that the entry, although there is a touch of alcohol on the back-palate. I find this has more definition and complexity than the To-Kalon ’01. Ravishing and delightful." (06/2009)
