Pierre-Jean Roty always gives his Marsannay Rosé a nice, long élevage in casks in the cellar, rather than aging it quickly in stainless steel tank for early drinking. So this wine was given eighteen months aging in three and four year-old barrels prior to bottling. The 2023 vintage is a fine bottle, offering up a deep salmon color and a complex bouquet of cherries, rhubarb, a touch of blood orange, a lovely base of soil and just a whisper of oak from its aging in older casks. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and succulent at the core, with a good base of soil, fine focus and balance and a long, zesty and classy finish. A lovely example that will actually age very well indeed. (Drink between 2026-2035)

A glowing cerise pink in the bottle, more like salmon in the glass. A more structured wine in all departments than its 2024 counterpart. Slightly more vivid cherry raspberry fruit, requires a bit more attention rather than the gentle flow of the 2024, while definitely refreshing. Drink from 2026-2028. Tasted Nov 2025.

The 2023 Marsannay Rosé is direct pressed as usual. Pale rose in hue, this has a light strawberry-tinged nose, open-knit and quite airy in style. The palate is well balanced with a curvaceous opening, pillowy in texture with red cherry and strawberry fruit. Lovely soft landing on the finish. Shame I tasted this on a chilly winter's morning rather than a hot summer's afternoon.(NM)

Note: made from a direct pressing with no maceration or must bleeding. A very pinot-like nose reflects notes of red cherry, raspberry and spice. The round, supple and plump flavors conclude in a clean, dry and inviting finale that isn't especially complex though it is refreshing.
