Reviewed January 2026The Rotys’ parcel of vines in Champs St. Etienne are now fifty-five years of age, which makes this their “young vine” cuvée of their lineup of single vineyard bottlings of Marsannay! The 2023 version offers up a superb aromatic constellation of cassis, black raspberries, grilled meats, coffee bean, a complex base of soil tones, woodsmoke and cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and sappy at the core, with fine soil inflection, ripe tannins and a long, well balanced and complex finish. Fine juice in the making. The 2023 Marsannay Champs Saint-Etienne had just a slight reduction on the nose but there is plenty of black plum and cassis fruit packed in here. Tightly-wound at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth velvety texture, ripe and generous with a pastille-like purity on the finish. Very fine.(NM)

Note: a .82 ha monopole of the Domaine. Deep ruby color. Evident, but not intrusive, wood frames liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, kirsch and a whiff of earth. The super-sleek, delicious, generously proportioned and punchy medium weight flavors also conclude in a dusty, youthfully austere and sneaky long finish that is borderline chewy. This overtly rustic effort should be approachable after 5-ish years or so but repay mid-term keeping.

Exceptionally dark purple at the centre. Pretty dark at the rim too. Almost too much, but there is enough structure to frame the exalted fruit to good effect. Tannins and acidity at the back. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2025.
