Reviewed July 2024Dark fruit-driven nose with notes of blackcurrants, cigar box, cedar and pine resin. The palate is dense and full-bodied with finely integrated tannins, vibrant acidity and a fresh, lingering finish that shows notes of black cherries, tobacco leaves and tomato leaves. A blend of 87% cabernet sauvignon, 6% merlot, 3% cabernet franc, 3% malbec and 1% petit verdot in 40% new oak. Drinkable now, but will benefit from more time in the bottle.

A dark red hue, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Scion has the addition of 6% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec and a 1% splash of Petit Verdot. The nose takes on a nicely layered and floral bouquet, with aromas of polished leather, currants, blueberries, and toasted vanilla. The palate is coating and full, with supple, ripe tannins, a silky texture, and a lightly toasty finish. It’s a charming wine that I would prefer to enjoy over the near term. (AF)
