The 2022 version of Jadot's Corton Pougets boasts a charismatic ripe plum and fig aroma with notes of earth and fresh flowers. The texture is silky and refined; the fruit ripens well in this south-facing site next to Le Charlemagne. The Jadot plot is planted to white wine at the top in the thin, rocky soils and Pinot in the siltier soils below. The grapes are destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in cask (one-third new); the delicious result demonstrates that both reds and whites are equally at home in this terroir. (CC)

The 2022 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has a tightly wound bouquet with dark plum, raspberry coulis, incense and light sous-bois scents. It takes quite a few swirls of the glass to get the aromas going. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured, assertive opening. The tannins are slightly chalky, lending this Corton-Pougets edginess/nerve. Fine mineralité towards the finish yet tightly wound and almost curmudgeonly in its nascent state, this Grand Cru will demand long-term aging. (NM)

Pomegranates, kirsch and blood orange lift from the glass to be joined on the palate by cocoa and fireplace embers. The tannins are impressively finessed at this young stage, and the succulent acidity delivers good refreshment. Jadot is the last to make a Corton labeled Pougets.

Exhibiting aromas of sweet red berries and cherries mingled with rose petals, orange zest, spices and smoke, the 2022 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a deep core of lively fruit, refined tannins and a long, resonant finish. This is always one of the highlights of the range, and this year's rendition is no exception. Winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team have produced another strong portfolio chez Jadot, with a relatively abundant crop of charming, pure and demonstrative wines, with alcohol back in more normal territory after the highs of 2018, 2019 and 2020. As I've written before, in the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228(WK)-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. A cold room also helps chill down any fruit that's too warm when it enters the winery. 2022 is also the second vintage of organic conversion for the Domaine Louis Jadot and the Domaine Gagey.
