The 2018 Merlot Strayts, blended with around 20% Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, has a medium ruby-purple color and pure aromas of red and black cherries, warm chocolate, aniseed, purple flowers and classy new oak spices that are already well integrated. The medium-bodied palate has plush fruits, grainy tannins and fresh acidity, finishing uplifted and spicy. 94+ (EB)

Intense aromas of black cherry and black currant meet with brownie batter and licorice on the seriously rich and layered nose of this Merlot. Polished yet still chalky tannins frame the palate, where dark cherry, smoked meat and more licorice make for an elegantly bold bottling. (MK)

Slightly closed aromatically, the 2018 Strayts nevertheless has a terrific sense of purity and elegance, offering lots of black cherry and plum fruits, subtle spice and licorice notes, medium to full body, beautiful balance, and a great finish.

Inky ruby. Fragrant, oak-spiced cherry, blackberry and mocha aromas, along with vanilla and woodsmoke nuances. Shows good depth and focus to the bitter cherry and dark berry flavors, which take a sweeter turn as the wine stretches out. Chewy tannins build steadily on a long, spicy finish that leaves bitter cherry and espresso notes behind. (JR)
