Review Date: 01/2025Dried cherries, licorice and orange peel dominate on the nose. With time in the glass, it shows complexity and depth, with flavors of cherries, dried flowers and balsamic. Large and full-bodied, it has typical dusty yet ripe tannins, freshness and a savory aftertaste with some warm, earthy notes. Try from 2027. (AF)

Notes
The 2021 Giacomo Fenocchio "Castellero" Barolo (DOCG) is a gorgeous, linear, and ethereally perfumed traditionalist masterpiece that captures the cool-climate precision of this exceptional vintage. Claudio Fenocchio crafts this single-cru expression from the Castellero vineyard, a historic hill situated between the town of Barolo and Monforte d'Alba. Here, the marl-and-sand soils contain a notable percentage of sand, giving Castellero a lighter, more aromatically lifted footprint compared to the muscular, clay-heavy Bussia cru down the road.
