Review Date: 05/2025The 2021 Barolo Del Comune Di Serralunga D'Alba is bright red, vibrant, and fresh, with notes of ripe cranberries, baking spice, apricot, and fresh rose perfume. Medium-bodied, it’s elegant and refined yet has the power of Serralunga without turning heavy in any way. It’s an exemplary Comune Barolo, which expresses the refinement and chiseled structure that the top wines in this vintage capture. It’s delightful to taste now and should also have a wide window for enjoyment over the coming 10-12 years. (AF)

Notes
The 2021 Luigi Vico "Comune di Serralunga d'Alba" Barolo (DOCG) is a brooding, powerfully structured, and deeply traditionalist tour de force that perfectly channels the raw, iron-clad muscle of Serralunga in this legendary, chiseled vintage. Luigi Vico crafts this village expression from old family parcels rooted deeply in the classic Formazioni di Lequio—a compact matrix of white limestone marl, iron-rich grey clay, and layers of compressed sandstone. Approached with uncompromised classical reverence, the fruit undergoes an extended 25-to-30-day maceration with native yeasts in temperature-controlled steel, followed by roughly 24 months of quiet maturation in large, neutral Slavonian oak botti. By strictly avoiding aggressive new small barrels, Vico lets the savage, structural energy of the commune take absolute center stage.
