The Wine Palate
The 2024 Chardonnay Muir-Hanna Vineyard was aged entirely in neutral oak for 10 months. It pops from the glass with bold notes of fresh white peaches and green guava, opening out to nuances of baking spices, orange blossoms, and chalk dust. The medium-bodied palate delivers vivacious orchard-fruit and spicy layers with a racy backbone and a suggestion of oiliness to the texture, finishing with a cheeky lemon-peel lift.

A piece of history in the bottle! This Chardonnay comes from the legendary Muir-Hanna Vineyard on the western edge of Oak Knoll. This small sub-region of Oak Knoll produced the now-legendary 1973 Chardonnay, which took top honors at the Judgment of Paris tasting in 1976.
This part of Oak Knoll has long been renowned for producing world-class Chardonnay. Ancient marine sedimentary soils eroding down from Mount Veeder meet gravels laid down by the Napa River. The cool climate and daily fog allow for long, slow ripening while preserving bright, fresh acidity.
Trois Noix's expression of this legendary site allows the pristine fruit to do all the talking, with native fermentation and aging entirely in neutral oak. This is much more Chablis-inspired and mineral-driven than a big, oaky butter bomb. Crunchy orchard fruit, chalky minerals, and a long, salivating finish. A great bottle that will only continue to improve over the next 2-4 years. A ridiculous price for great Chardonnay.

From the same area of Oak Knoll that produced the 1973 Judgement of Paris-winning Chardonnay—and it drinks like that lineage. White peach, green apple, and jasmine over a whisper of honeycomb, all in tight focus. Entirely neutral oak and only partial malo keep it lean, crisp, and mineral, the volcanic-and-marine-shale soils lending real cut. Medium-bodied, energetic, and pure. Anyone expecting oaky-buttery Napa Chard will be happily disarmed. Absurd value at $15.

This small sub-region of Oak Knoll produced the legendary 1973 Chardonnay that won the Judgement of Paris Tasting some 50 years ago!
