Still very young, this masterpiece of dry riesling has enormous textural complexity. Gigantic concentration, but also very racy. Great citrus and herbal freshness as well as formidable acidity in the extremely long, focused finish. From 3 hectares in the heart of this site. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold.

Vinous

Review Date: 09/2025
The 2024 Riesling Westhofener Morstein Grosses Gewächs flickers with yeast, chervil and lemon zest in equal measure. The palate is so cool and calm. There is something utterly serene here, with the purest lemon and limestone. It is enduring and eternally calm. This may be quieter than other Morstein vintages, but it has confidence. The 2024 is fresh, bright and salty. (Bone-dry)(AK)

From the core district of the cru and aged in stücks and doppelstücks, the 2024 Morstein GG Westhofen Riesling shows a pure yet intense and precise bouquet with fully ripe yellow fruits, a touch of sweet oak, lemon zest and chalky/salty notes. Full-bodied, refined and very elegant on the palate, this is a pure, very saline and energetic, very long and mouthwatering Morstein with substance, citric notes and fine and crunchy tannins. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2025.(SR)

Decanter

A monumental wine. It seems that the Morstein, with its calcareous soil, can balance out all the vagaries of the weather. Philipp Wittmann’s biodynamic cultivation certainly also contributes to its consistency. The acidity here shows a finesse rarely found in other Rieslings. The fruit plays with nuances from the peel: candied lemon and orange, accompanied by freshly cut herbs and a hint of saltiness. Above all, the sheer endless length is moving on and on.

Notes

95pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 19 25. The Morstein Westhofen Riesling GG 2024, as it is referred to on the consumer label, offers a beautifully delicate and complex nose of yellow flowers, aniseed, almond, light toast, acacia, may tree, and licorice. The wine shows great finesse on the palate, and only gradually shows the more forceful side of Morstein as it gains in weight and intensity. Yet the finish proves superbly elegant, refined, and playful, with some tickly acidity and a bone-dry feel. The energy is beautiful. This is a splendid Morstein GG, with depth and freshness. 2032-2044."(09/2025) 95+pts Fallstaff Magazine: "Very closed on the nose, floral hints, with a note of flint. Medium-bodied, in line with the vintage, despite this, the palate has gravitas: supple, substantial, with a good acidity and minerality, seamlessly intertwined. Dense and long."(09/2025)
