Ernest, founded in 2012, sources its wines from numerous vineyards. H Klopp is a low, cool, foggy site near Sebastopol. The fragrant, lemony nose is very delicate and self-effacing. A good attack leads onto a palate that's concentrated but lean, with clarity and a fine texture. It shows tension and lift, but needs time to unfurl. The finish is long and surprisingly silky.

This zesty and well-balanced wine pairs green-apple brightness with pleasing richness in texture. Relatively light bodied, but puts forward subtleties that come out with time in the glass.

Lots of buttered melon, toasted almond, honeysuckle, and white peach notes emerge from the 2019 Chardonnay H. Klopp Vineyard Bohemian Series, a medium-bodied, rich, wonderfully textured Sonoma Coast Chardonnay with good freshness and vibrancy. It should keep for 4-6 years, although I see no need to hold off.

The 2019 Chardonnay Bohemian Series H. Klopp Vineyard is terrific. Crushed rocks, white pepper, mint, slate and white flowers give this translucent, super-expressive Chardonnay tons of character. This deceptively mid-weight, ethereal Chardonnay hits all the right notes. This Sebastopol site seems to be especially well-suited to the Ernest style.
