Reviewed November 2023The Jonive wines come from their Moon Dust Vineyard in the Sebastopol Hills, a cool site by Russian River Valley standards. Lushly aromatic with notes of chicory, sumac and loads of wild berries. The palate is fresh but well-structured. Red raspberries, fresh mint, and savoury smoke follow the flavours of cloves. Delicious but youthful with the structure to develop over the next 8 to 10 years. (CP)

Ripe and succulent, showing a delicious set of raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors dotted with dried anise, black tea and singed wood spice notes. This is rich yet defined and toasty yet fresh. (JM)

This bottle shows exactly why the terroir of the Sebastopol Hills is so coveted for producing highly expressive, elegant, cool-climate Pinot Noir, and why this specific locale will soon have its own dedicated AVA. The 2021 Pinot Noir has a magical balance of vibrant forest berry fruit, with hints of darker, more brambly fruit emerging with air. Warm earthy spices, sandalwood, clove, blackcurrant leaf, and spiced citrus peel add layers of complexity. The wine is finely poised, refined, and elegant, with impeccable purity and freshness. With a few years of bottle age already under its belt, it’s drinking beautifully now and should continue to evolve gracefully over the next 2–5 years and beyond.
