The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses (Domaine Louis Jadot) is the most aromatic wine in the range, bursting with notes of rose petals, orange zest, musky spices and sweet red berries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed palate that's satiny and saline. Winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team have once again delivered a strong portfolio chez Jadot. Barnier stressed the importance of sorting and of vigilance during élevage, in particular where acid rot made an appearance, and he didn't hesitate to perform a saignée for cuvées where yields were high. As I've written before, in the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. What's more, barrels are now used four rather than three times, meaning the percentage of new oak overall has fallen. A cold room also helps chill down any fruit that's too warm when it enters the winery, something especially important during the warm 2023 harvest. This vintage also marks the third vintage of organic conversion for the Domaine Louis Jadot and the Domaine Gagey.(WK)

Here the expressive nose is both spicier and more floral-suffused to the elegant red cherry, currant and rose petal scents. The super-sleek and chiseled middle weight flavors, like those of the Bonnes Mares, aren't especially concentrated, but they do deliver outstanding persistence on the balanced finish that is sheer class. This is terrific and should age accordingly. *Sweet Spot! Outstanding!*

The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is quite controlled, almost taciturn on the nose compared to the far more expressive and exuberant Bonnes-Mares. Well-defined red fruit, briar and light sous-bois scents leave me wanting more. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, as sapid red fruit meets orange peel and peppery notes. The finish has a bit of sinew that time in bottle should alleviate. The 2023 is a decent rather than spectacular Les Amoureuses.(NM)
