2022 Tiberio "Archivio" Montepulciano D'Abruzzo
95
Vinous
Review Date: 06/2026The 2022 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Archivio is a spice box of balsamic black cherries, ground clove, incense, rosemary and smoky crushed stone. It's more vibrant and refined than expected, with silken textures and ripe red berry fruits that saturate toward the close. This presents beautifully integrated tannins, finishing firm and poised but still fresh with a tart raspberry concentration. Tiberio has mastered the oak integration in the Archivio. This is a spectacular showing. (EG)

Notes
The 2022 Tiberio "Archivio" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a monumental, profoundly structured single-vineyard red that serves as a living library of the estate’s ancient genetic heritage. Sourced from a specific 1.2-hectare plot of 69-year-old vines in Cugnoli, this parcel is unique for its distinct limestone soil underlaid by iron-rich clay. Cristiana Tiberio utilizes this site—home to four distinct, unique biotypes of Montepulciano—to make a wine built for serious cellaring. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and given an extended maceration, it is aged for 12 months in a combination of large neutral barriques (strictly for oxygenation, not wood flavor) and stainless steel.
