Reviewed January 2025Heady and evocative notes on the nose, really perfumed and aromatic fruit and flowers with quite toasted edges of clove, tobacco and cedar. Juicy, clean, fun and friendly - tannins have a powdery texture that coats the mouth just covering the red berry juiciness although the acidity adds a nice lift and this ends clean and crystalline. There's lots of concentration and ripeness here, a powerful base driving the wine, but it's also restrained and graceful giving so much charm and approachability. I like the soft mintiness throughout and the wet stone minerality on the finish. Calm and collected. Easy to like. (GH)

Barrel sample. This classed growth from Margaux is showing a spurt of quality in this firmly structured wine. The wood aging is prominent but does not mask the rich black fruits. It has a core of tannins that will eventually balance with the acidity. (RV)

Smoke, berries, ripe plums, currants, roasted spices and a touch of citrus on the nose. Fluid, poised and nimble on the palate, showing well-judged extraction and fine-grained tannins. Chalky, juicy and pretty long. A bit more approachable than many, but give it one more year. Drink from 2026. (ZS)

Spicy oak, ripe black cherries, and floral nuances emerge from the 2022 Château Desmirail, a medium-bodied, elegant, seamless Margaux offering polished tannins, just about flawless balance, and a great finish. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out. If it picks up weight with 2-4 years in the cellar, the score will seem low. The 2022 is 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 92+
