Bessin-Tremblay’s 2022 Chablis 1er Cru La Forêt—a wine that in less-favorable years such as 2021 and 2024 becomes an ingredient in Montmains bottling—has turned out nicely. Opening in the glass to reveal notes of fresh hazelnuts, acacia, fennel and citrus peel, it’s medium to full-bodied, intense and crisp, with tangy acidity and a long, sapid finish. Chablis purists will enjoy comparing this with Montmains. Jean-Claude Bessin officially retired, handing over the reins to his sons, Romain and Antoine. Today, Romain is responsible for work in the vineyards, while Antoine manages the cellar. What was formerly Domaine Jean-Claude Bessin has been rechristened Domaine Bessin-Tremblay—Romain's mother, the source of many of the domaine's vineyards, being a Tremblay. The name may have changed, but the quality at this 12.3-hectare domaine in La Chapelle Vaupelteigne remains just as impressive.(KK)

The 2022 Chablis La Forêt 1er Cru is very backward on the nose, but there is real potential here—it just needs more time. The palate is well balanced with bright acidity, tensile with a pleasing flintiness, though everything seems dialled back at the moment. If you have a cellar, then use it (for this wine at least). Bottled under Diam 10 Origine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.(NM)

A subtly spicy nose is comprised by notes of lemon zest, white flower, sea breeze and a background hint of quinine. The delicious medium weight flavors also flash good minerality and more obvious powerful and a certain taut muscularity on the palate coating, balanced and moderately firm finale. Worth considering as this is really quite good.*Burghound OUtstanding!*

Pale colour again, with a richer bouquet more in the honeysuckle line, but this is superficial. The tension is there behind the richness of the fruit. Good length once again, more body than the Montmain. Drink from 2026-2033. Tasted Jul 2024.
