1997 Peju Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1997 Peju Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91WE). Wine Enthusiast: "Full, complex bouquet of dark berries, tobacco and smoke, with a cool pine note adding interest. Similar flavors follow on the palate, and the texture is lean and refined, with very good fruit-to-acid balance. The long, supple finish offers sweet black fruit buttressed by toasty oak and supported by brisk tannins. Oaky, in a Bordeaux manner, and very elegant." (11/2000)

Peju Winery was founded in the early 1980s by Tony and Herta Peju, who established their Rutherford estate and gradually expanded it into a family-run Napa Valley producer known for estate farming and small-lot winemaking. The winery developed its reputation around Bordeaux varieties—especially Cabernet Sauvignon—sourced from vineyards in Rutherford and other Napa Valley sites that the family began acquiring and cultivating during this period. By the mid-1990s Peju had become recognized for its focus on sustainable practices, hands-on vineyard work, and a cellar approach centered on crafting varietal expressions rooted in Napa Valley fruit.
