Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Bevan "Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 96IWR, 95VN, 94WS). Wine Advocate: "Sugarloaf is a cooler site in south Napa, above a quarry. It usually allows for a longer hang time, often lending a minty or herbal lift to this label. The deep garnet-purple colored 2012 Proprietary Red Sugarloaf Mountain is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Deep garnet colored, it offers up notes of fruitcake, exotic spices, prunes, black truffles and Morello cherries with hints of garrigue, tilled earth and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers a firm foundation of ripe, grainy, tannins supporting the bright, vibrant fruit, finishing long and with a minty lift. (LPB) " (02/2021)

100 points, Robert Parker: "Another perfect wine is Bevan’s equal part blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2012 Proprietary Red Sugarloaf Mountain. Notes of unsmoked cigar tobacco, forest floor, pen ink mulberries, blackberries and spring flowers soar from this inky/purple-colored 2012. The wine possesses great intensity, remarkable unctuosity and thickness, and perfect integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin and wood. Aged in equal parts new Gamba and Darnajou barrels, there are 225 cases of this fabulous wine." (10/2014)

Int'l Wine Review
“The Bevan Cellars Sugarloaf Mountain Proprietary Red is an exceptional effort from Russell Bevan in 2012. It is a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot which immediately opens up with seductive aromas of ripe dark fruits, cassis, anise, mocha, sweet spices, violets, toasted notes and a lovely underlying mineral character. This rich, full-bodied, voluptuous red is impressive for its incredible depth and concentration, yet it remains in balance al the way through the plush, layered finish. A completely compelling wine that is not only absolutely delicious, but capable of lasting decades as well. (JD)” (11/2014)

“The 2012 Red Blend Sugarloaf Mountain (Cabernet Franc/Merlot) is another drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Savory herbs, smoke, tobacco, menthol, graphite, red cherries and plums blossom in a powerful, intense wine that grips all the senses and never lets up. A crescendo of aromas and flavors builds to the layered, voluptuous finish. (AG)” (01/2015)

“A bold, rich, expressive style, brimming with ripe, juicy blackberry, wild berry, currant and plum flavors, revealing a carpet of intense, supple tannins and a pretty scent of mocha and vanilla bean. Cabernet Franc and Merlot. (JL)” (05/2015)
